Hello, I am Marc Andrew C., a current PhD student at the University of Michigan studying Applied Mathematics (with a Master's Degree expected by May 2025). At the University of Michigan, I have taught both Math 115 and 116 (Calculus I and Calculus II), TA'd for graduate level mathematics and currently have a 3.94/4 GPA. Prior to this, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics at UCLA (3.8/4 GPA). As a high schooler, I received a 4.0 unweighted GPA (4.7/4.0 weighted), scored 1540 on the SAT (740 English/800 Math) and scored a 800 on the SAT Math II exam; I also dual enrolled in a community college where I received a AS in Mathematics and AA in Sociology (3.8/4 GPA).

During a regular tutoring session, most students want feedback on homework or practice questions for upcoming exams. Going through these types of questions, I try to simplify math by highlighting the most important concepts (learning objectives) and create easy to follow step by step procedures for each type of problems. Since the emphasis is on conceptual understanding, my students are increasingly able to navigate difficult word problems and never before seen problems related to the topic they are learning. Upon request, I can also provide additional problems that students can work on beyond the tutoring session.

I also teach a self paced class for students who want to go beyond their classroom or try to get ahead for an additional charge. In this type of tutoring session, I become the lecturer and give lectures on never before seen topics and provide homework and even exams upon request. A typical example of this is students enrolled in AP Calculus AB but wish to take the AP Calculus BC exam.

Topics I am most comfortable teaching are Algebra 1,2, Precalculus, Calculus I and II and SAT math. I am also proficient in Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and Real Analysis. Most of my students have been high schoolers and college students but also open to tutoring excelling middle schoolers who are ready for a challenge.

College Counseling

I have extensive experience working with high school students, community college students, and undergraduates to navigate the complex college and graduate school application processes. By providing personalized counseling, I help students develop strong application profiles, from assisting with essays to choosing their extracurricular activities. My focus is on increasing their chances of acceptance into competitive programs and ensuring they make well-informed decisions about their academic futures. Additionally, I mentor undergraduate students to prepare them for graduate school, offering guidance on research opportunities, application strategies, and career development.
