When I was young I thought I wasn't smart. I know how it feels. Later, I nailed strategies for academic success. I won national academic awards and numerous scholarships and earned my Masters and PhD. I help children, teens, college-students, and grad students build academic confidence and success, and I make it fun. My six-year-old pupil who froze with stress when trying to read or write quickly shifted into joyful reading and writing. My international grad student, who was flunking a core requirement while also struggling with English, earned a B, allowing him to graduate and pursue his dreams. Patient and encouraging, I tailor my tutoring to the student's needs and learning style.

Throughout my doctoral training, fellow students sought me out for academic help. Later, teaching at a university, I helped students succeed despite challenges. I have extensive training in child and adult development and the brain, learning, intelligence, and clinical psychology, as well as math, music, and other fields. I previously worked with children and adults as their psychotherapist. Now I work with normal individuals of all ages to lay aside self doubt and succeed academically.

ADHD

ADHD

ADHD students benefit from my doctoral-level training in psychology, including child and life-span development, the brain, learning, ADHD, and related challenges. My past experience providing psychotherapy and consultation for individuals with ADHD heightens my attunement to the needs of my students. Students find me supportive and effective.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

My individual instruction for the autistic child is rooted in empathy, respect, and creativity to meet the child where he or she is. I customize my teaching approach for each child's individual needs. My doctoral (PhD) and Masters (MS) degrees in clinical psychology included academic training in autism, brain function, learning, and child development. I love to support the autistic child and his or her family. When indicated, I collaborate with interdisciplinary teams serving the child and family. Enjoy seeing your child smile as he or she learns to read. Working remotely, I help your kindergarten through third-grade child master reading. The first step is a "Read Well Now" parent consultation with me. Then, the parents purchase third-party materials (under $200) that I use to teach your child without stress. Parents who wish to help teach are encouraged to do so under my guidance. If preferred, I do all of the teaching. It's a joy to watch your child master reading with confidence. In-person sessions are in Alameda, California. For students outside Alameda, I offer online sessions.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

Bring the joy of learning to your kindergarten through sixth-grade child. I help children enjoy learning and build a foundation of confidence in reading, writing, math, and other elementary-school subjects. A former child psychotherapist, I have doctoral-level training in child development, learning, brain function, and child well being to help your child succeed. I enjoy helping child students leave stress behind and take delight in learning. In-person sessions are held in Alameda, California. For children outside Alameda, I offer online sessions designed to be just as engaging, which may include movement activities and interactive floor games to keep your child actively involved. Note: Online sessions are intended for children who cannot attend in person; I’m unable to accommodate requests to travel or adjust the location for in-person sessions outside Alameda.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

My math tutoring is exceptional, drawing on doctoral training in child development, learning, and the brain, past experience as child psychotherapist, and my passion for unleashing children's academic confidence. Elementary math skills constitute the foundation for a lifetime of math confidence. Give your child an optimal start with professional, compassionate math tutoring. 📍In-person sessions are in Alameda, California. For children outside Alameda, I offer online sessions. Young children are not expected to sit in front of the computer the whole time; we incorporate movement and floor games to make learning fun.
English

English

Would you like to speak and understand English? I can help. My tutoring is patient and encouraging. We use exercises that help you learn English more easily. Are you an international student struggling with courses because they are taught in English? I can help you with your courses. For example, an international student was flunking his graduate course, but after we worked together, he passed and graduated with his master’s degree. I'm glad to help you in the same way. Do you already know English well, but you’d like to improve your English writing? I help with that, too. For example, I am helping a working professional write high-quality English communications to help his business. Similarly, I help English-speaking students improve their written English for their courses.
Piano

Piano

I teach all levels of piano playing, beginning to concert level. I was fortunate to study piano for 17 + years with exceptional instructors, including the internationally beloved pianist, William Corbett-Jones. I performed solo many times at San Francisco State University and received a number of scholarships based on my piano playing. For beginning piano students I have innovated fun approaches for easier learning. For concert-level pianists I enrich your musical expression and stage presence. In-person lessons are in Alameda, California. For students outside Alameda, I have developed methods for teaching piano remotely.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

You or your child can enjoy pre-algebra! I tailor lessons to the student's preferred style of learning and processing. For example, if a student is strong in auditory processing, not visual processing, I adapt lessons accordingly, making it much easier for the student. If the student missed math concepts from earlier grades, I help fill in the gaps and build the student's confidence. In addition to my strong math background, students benefit from my doctoral-level training in learning and confidence building. I am prepared to teach pre-algebra to home-schooled students, those taking pre-algebra courses, or anyone who wants to master pre-algebra. Pre-algebra mastery is a huge help to students as they advance through high-school and college math courses. 📍In-person sessions are in Alameda, California. For students outside Alameda, I offer online sessions.
Proofreading

Proofreading

My professional proofreading and editing, together with my supportive, enthusiastic approach, help you achieve better grades, fulfill your dissertation or thesis requirements, or publish your research article. If desired, I apply the latest APA style (APA format) guidelines to your manuscript. Additionally, I facilitate clear, effective, writing, so your readers will readily grasp your ideas and knowledge. As adjunct university faculty, I graded writing quality and APA formatting for graduate and undergraduate students and helped students improve their writing. Additionally, my own doctoral dissertation was published in APA format. Now, I help writers of all ages and academic levels polish your writing to maximize the rewards of your hard work.

My clinical psychology PhD and pre-doctoral internship were from an APA-accredited program. I weave together my psychology knowledge, passion for students, and coaching background to powerfully unleash your academic confidence and success.

Public Speaking

I look forward to sharing with you my strategies for effective public speaking, developed over a lifetime. From early childhood I performed solo on stage or spoke before audiences who responded very positively. I developed strategies for successful speaking, a skill that recently won me a faculty position at a university. As a bonus, I am trained to help you let go of fear and unveil your inner confidence. You can experience the joy of speaking!

Social Work

Social Work

My graduate training in child and adult development, human behavior, family dynamics, child-parent attachment, mental health challenges, positive mental health, and research methods prepare me to assist social work students in these types of courses. Writing

Writing

I help all age levels - from young children to doctoral candidates - unleash your writing skills. Through our work together, a young child who froze with stress about writing learned to enjoy it. My grad students and dissertation students replace overwhelm with confident writing. International students who struggle with English improve their grades. Unleashing your writing talent can be very rewarding! If you are required to learn APA style (APA format), I teach that as well. While teaching at the university I often graded students' use of APA style. Mastering it, if needed, skyrockets your professionalism and confidence!
