I also taught biology and physics for most of my years at Oakwood and elsewhere, and have for multiple years been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at all levels from regular/college prep/honors to AP (and IB for Chemistry)
Previously at Santa Barbara (working for CLAS, the Campus Learning Assistance Services at UCSB) I ran the Organic Chemistry and Biology tutorial groups. And I taught the test prep classes for the MCAT (medical school admissions test) and GMAT (business school test) for a well known test prep company.
Most recently, I have been tutoring Chemistry, Physics, and Biology at all levels from regular to honors to AP (including AP Physics C with calculus) for the past eight years.
Some of my credentials include: graduating Phi Beta Kappa (near the top of my class) from UC Berkeley with a BA in Molecular Biology, being a National Merit Scholar, scoring in the 99.9th percentile on the MCAT, and also being offered a Regents scholarship to UC Irvine Medical school (which I had to turn down for personal reasons.)
I have gotten good at explaining topics in simple ways that anyone can understand, and I'm happy to switch it up to see what works best for you. I like to see people improve their confidence in topics and gain an true understanding of the material. I often have students raising their score to levels that they had not thought they were capable of. I’ve taken students from flunking to getting the top score in their class on a test.
I enjoy working with students, and am happy to write practice questions, or do whatever is necessary to increase a student’s understanding of the material. It is very gratifying to me to have students do we

Chemistry,

Chemistry

I taught high school chemistry at all levels (from AP to honors to regular) for a ten years. I also taught the organic chemistry tutorial groups at UC Santa Barbara for a year before moving to Los Angeles. While teaching AP chemistry in Los Angeles over a period of six years, my students earned a majority of 5's with the rest mostly 4's and only two 3's over the years. The average was well above 4.5. I find chemistry to be very coachable. Students do well when it is explained clearly. I have taken students that were flunking chemistry and helped them increase their performance so that they got the top score on tests (that was in high school chemistry!). I am happy to explain at whatever level works best for you. I've worked with all different types of learners and have lots of different ways of approaching the material. My belief if that anyone can do well in chemistry once it is explained. Sometimes it's hard since chemistry is cumulative which means filling in the gaps but it is not nearly as hard as it seems
Physics,

Physics

I am a former high school science teacher (11 years in the classroom) who taught physics in addition to chemistry and biology. I tutor AP physics C and all other levels. I have a lot of experience breaking down concepts so they make sense and helping students to raise their grades on tests and quizzes and labs. I also taught physics for the Princeton Review MCAT test prep class (along with chemistry, biology, and reading comprehension) and scored in 99.9th percentile on the physical sciences section and on the overall MCAT. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley with a Regents scholarship and earned A's in all my physics classes.

MCAT,

MCAT

I have taught the MCAT prep classes for the Princeton Review , and have also tutored the MCAT to multiple students on a one-on-one basis. Both times I took the MCAT myself I earned in the 99.9th percentile, getting offered a regent's scholarship to UC Irvine which I had to decline for personal reasons. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley with a degree in Molecular Biology (Immunology emphasis). The new test is heavy in biochemistry and molecular biology, courses which I majored in. I don't yet emphasize the Social Sciences section of the test as I am completing coursework in sociology and psychology to get these ramped up.

Great Tutor !

My son's comment after his first session with Laura for AP Chem was "Where did you find her? She was awesome". Will recommend Laura greatly for her knowledge and teaching methodology.

Great

My daughter loved Laura, she was great and explained thing well and made it interesting. She took her time and made sure she understood before moving to the next phase.
