I obtained my Bachelors degree in English Literature from Iowa State University with a 3.49 GPA. I later completed the Northern Arizona University teacher preparation program where I became fully certified to teach English in the Arizona high school classroom. While my chronic struggle with Crohn's disease has prevented my from accepting a fulltime teaching position, I spent years teaching developmental English at Arizona Western College where I enjoyed assisting students both in a classroom setting as well as one-on-one, to elevate their writing skills to allow them to succeed in college and their professional lives.
In addition to my obtaining a degree in English, I successfully passed the certification test to teach History in Arizona high schools as well. I currently work as a substitute teacher for the Yuma Union High School District where I enjoy engaging students in their current learning objectives. This also gives me a unique perspective into the current high school classroom as well as the needs of high school students and recent high school graduates.
On a personal level, I pride myself on being highly responsive to a student's needs and constantly adapt my instruction to optimize the student's progress towards their specific objective.
