I have extensive teaching experience as a professor of law at Northeastern and Harvard Law School. I was voted Teacher of the Year in 2007 by the student body at Northeastern Law School. I graduated with honors from U.C. Berkeley and Harvard Law School. I am a published author (books, essays, scholarly articles, all laid out in my website) and have a lengthy record as a top-notch scholar. Aside from teaching and scholarship, I was an accomplished courtroom litigator, with considerable experience in capital punishment (I was lead counsel that led to the ending of capital punishment in New York). My communication skills are exemplary, which facilitates my ability to create a dynamic learning environment for students with a variety of learning styles.

I am currently a psychotherapist, specializing in performance optimization. I coach professionals and students in how to perform at their peak. Regarding the LSAT, my approach is method-driven. That means I would be teaching you the proper techniques and methodology to handle each domain of this very difficult test. With respect to writing, I edit material and model for you how to communicate effectively.

Career Development

I am a former law professor and long-time courtroom lawyer. I am now a psychotherapist and wellness coach. Included in my practice is the coaching of individuals in pursuing career goals. I have experience in crafting effective resumes and improving interviewing skills. I can also help identify skills and interests and matching them up to viable careers.
Law

Law

A former law professor at Harvard and Northeastern, I can help you master the skills needed to excel on law-school exams. I can teach you what professors are looking for in your exam answers (I can tell you now that they are aren't looking for "information dumps," which is to say, an answer that simply regurgitates the law). What they want is analysis and astute issue spotting, and that is something I can teach you.
LSAT

LSAT

I scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT, twice. I am a former Harvard Law professor with nearly ten years experience coaching the LSAT. My approach is methodology-driven because success on the LSAT hinges on mastery of technique and method for the specific domains on this difficult test.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I am an experienced courtroom lawyer who has advocated several high-profile cases (including the case that ended capital punishment in New York). I have delivered many speeches worldwide in connection with my work on high-profile cases. I have trained lawyers in forensic advocacy for many years. I am also a former professor of law at Northeastern and Harvard. I have spent my entire career engaging in public speaking.
Writing

Writing

Let me help you get into law school or grad school. I know the admissions process, as I was on an admissions committee and read countless personal statements and diversity essays. My writing skills are exemplary. I'm a published author, including a critically acclaimed book and many scholarly articles and essays. I have coached many people in writing and have extensive editing experience. Most significantly, I can also help craft powerful personal statements for admissions into college, graduate, or professional school. Feel free to check out my website: danrwilliams.net

Knowledgable, open, and to-the-point

Dan tutored me for the LSAT and I had a great experience. We got rolling from the first session. He does not waste time, and completes questions with you to identify what types of questions you need the most help with. He teaches you the methodology, but you mostly learn by practicing real questions together for the majority of the session, which I found the most helpful.

Straight to the Point

His lessons regarding assumption based questions really helped open my mind toward how mechanistic the material can be with the proper technique. His help was greatly appreciated!

Outstanding LSAT Tutor – Highly Recommended!

I really enjoyed working with Dan. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, and you can immediately tell he’s been tutoring for a long time. I was initially worried I’d just hear the same things that are written in books, but Dan’s approach is totally different—he teaches smart, effective shortcuts and unique strategies you won’t find anywhere else. He’s patient, clear in his explanations, and truly knows how to teach. As a former tutor myself, I know that having a high LSAT score doesn’t automatically mean someone can teach. Teaching is a skill of its own, and Dan definitely has it. He helped me immensely. One thing I especially appreciated is his honesty. He won’t waste your time or money—if he feels a topic is fully covered, he’ll let you know. Thank you, Dan! I’ll definitely leave another review after my LSAT in September.

Very knowledgeable and patient legal writing tutor

Dan was excellent! When deciding on a legal writing tutor after receiving multiple offers, his experience spoke for itself! As a 1L, I was really struggling with the transition from undergrad writing to legal writing, which is much more concise and mechanical than the detailed writing I am used to. He was very patient with answering any questions I had as we went through my paper line-by-line to go over my professor’s remarks that I was struggling to understand even after meeting with her and revising my paper multiple times. He was able to explain everything clearly for the beginner legal writer and now I know what my professor is looking for and what will be expected of me moving forward. I highly recommend him to anyone struggling with their writing, especially legal writing!

Crystal-clear Advice

Dan is an excellent tutor, offering clear insight that transformed my writing to be much punchier. He's skilled at sifting through clunky and jargonistic text to find intent, and his advice helped me communicate that intent in a way that makes my writing both easier to understand and more exciting to read. I feel much more confident in my writing after consulting Dan, and he's my top recommendation for anyone seeking advice on law school applications or general writing technique.

A coach who is straight-forward, no nonsense, intelligent, and patient.

Dan is the first 1-on-1 coach I have ever invested in, and he made my session a productive one. As someone with ADD, I have tried self-study and taken many group sessions but have not succeeded in increasing my score due to my inability to stay focused enough. Dan kept me engaged throughout our whole session. If he saw me struggling, he would be patient and guide me step-by-step until I understood. I am glad I discovered Dan and look forward to having him as a part of my law school admissions journey.

Insightful Personal Statement Editing

Dan is a talented and accomplished writer. He proofread and edited my personal statement for law school, giving me tips on how to write a good narrative. He definitely emphasizes demonstrating one's abilities over simply telling the reader.

Great advice

Dan williams really knows his stuff. He really helped me with my applications. I am more confident I can get into a top school with his guidance. I would never have thought to write the things he suggested for my personal statement on my own.

Dan the Man
