Hi there, I am Sam! I am currently a PhD student in Economics at the University of Arizona. I hold a Master's degree in Statistics along with a Bachelor's double major in Economics and Statistics from Brigham Young University. During my time at BYU, I maintained a 4.0 graduate GPA while concurrently working as a teaching assistant (basically a glorified tutor hired by the university). I have worked as a teaching assistant for seven different quantitative courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Long before attending university, I worked as an instructor at Mathnasium, helping younger students master everything from basic arithmetic to pre-calculus.

Many students convince themselves they are simply bad at math. Most of the time, they just have foundational gaps that prior instructors completely missed. My teaching method revolves around identifying those exact missing pieces so the advanced material finally clicks. I wouldn't say that I'm naturally 'gifted' at math, and having to fight for my own understanding makes me a highly effective tutor today. I know exactly what it feels like to be stuck. I know how to explain intimidating concepts like Bayesian statistics or hypothesis testing in everyday language. I specialize in teaching AP Statistics and college-level introductory stats across all fields, including psychology, sociology, and political science. I also routinely tutor microeconomics alongside data science programming in R and Python.
