Hi, I'm Grace! I am an essay tutor and creative writer who's passionate about helping students best express themselves through their writing and understanding of English language arts. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona with a B.A. in Creative Writing and a minor in music. My undergraduate work focused on analyzing standard classics in British and American literature, as well as diverse children's literature, poetry, and creative nonfiction.
For the past four years, I have fostered student success through working as an essay coach for dozens of students (ages 16-19) applying to highly-selective colleges. On a one-on-one basis, I have provided in-line comments, written commentary, and verbal feedback detailing ways to improve students' activities lists, personal statements, and supplemental essays. I provided feedback that was equally based around the quality of their content as well as the grammatical structure and overall flow of writing. I approach coaching students through the lens that all writing is persuasive writing, and therefore, all academic and personal essays need to be structured around an argument supported by examples. This philosophy has helped me tutor students into creating stronger, more detailed writing that best tells their stories.
I have also worked as a content writer, editor, and I designed a style guide for an academic journal about teaching children's literature (WoW Stories). Throughout my work as a tutor, I strive to show the importance of literary analysis and persuasive writing, two aspects of understanding language that I believe improve critical thinking and communication skills across all subjects. Mostly, I have a deep appreciation for the literary arts that I would love to bring to others.
