Hello, my name is Gil, and I tutor USMLE Step 1 because my training and experience sit at the intersection of basic sciences and clinical reasoning. I recently graduated from Southern California University of Health Sciences and thereby refreshed the Pre-clerkship courses of the MD program I attended in Tucson Arizona at The University of Arizona College of Medicine. With this recent graduation (December 2024) from Southern California University with a Master of Science in Medical Science (MSMS) and 20 years’ experience in helping students, I am confident I can help you with USMLE-1 related pre-clerkship courses and in preparation for the USMLE-1 exam. Thus, this background not only lets me help medical students with Pre-clerkship courses but allows me to translate various subjects into the patterns that appear in USMLE step 1 exam.
I have more than twenty years of tutoring experience across chemistry, math, physics, and medical science courses. Over that time, I have collaborated with undergraduates and graduate students one-on-one and in small groups, in classroom review settings, as a volunteer, and as a private tutor. I currently meet students online and in person in Tucson, and I am comfortable adapting to different learning styles and schedules.
My sessions are based on patient cases and begin with first principles. We use a brief diagnostic and your own priorities to choose what to focus on, and each meeting centers on NBME and UWorld patient cases in the systems or topics you want help with. I teach a clear process of the courses covered on the USMLE-1 by always tying each case back to the underlying principles and mechanisms. By determining where to focus—from developing a study plan to addressing your weakest subjects—my coaching remains highly targeted, practical, and instantly beneficial across all your exams when test day arrives.
