When I enrolled at the University of Arizona, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew that I loved to read and write. With that in mind, I enrolled in courses that I was interested in, and my major ended up taking the form of Extended English Secondary Education with a special emphasis on Shakespearean Literature, Theater, and Art History. I was proud to have made the Dean's List and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and was certified to teach grades 7-12 by the Arizona State Board of Education. In the yeas following my graduation, I taught Middle School and High School, and as part of my Master's Thesis, I co-founded the Honors Academy at my high school. Additionally, I taught Reading classes at the local community college and New Teacher Training seminars for my District and the university as an adjunct faculty member. I loved teaching and continued my own education and earned my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership with Honors for achieving a 4.0 GPA from Northern Arizona University.
As a teacher I designed my lesson plans following Madeline Hunter's Essential Elements of Instruction, which Incorporated task analysis of the objectives to be learned, whole group teaching opportunities as well as small group and individualized instruction, a variety of methods reused to check for understanding and assess students learning of the objective and of course reteaching if necessary. I also strived to incorporate Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences into my teaching curriculum so that I was able to reach the myriad of learners that came through my door.
