Aside from certifications and test scores, I also spent a few months volunteering at a tech library where I helped plan and run a special program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 called STEAM Saturdays. During this time the children would do various activities that would teach them about the different aspects of STEAM such as simple physics applications and the laws of electricity.
I understand the importance of patience when it comes to teaching someone a new subject. This becomes even more necessary when they are struggling with it, as not only does the student have an issue with the material itself, but it can also lead to low self-esteem and feeling inadequate. When teaching, I do my best to be as patient as possible while also finding ways to make special and personalized lessons for my students. Bringing down the wall between student and teacher while feeling more like a friend can help ease tension and open the way for a student to open up more about their specific struggles as well as giving an insight into their interests. When teaching, I want the student to find their own reason for wanting to learn the content and view it as useful instead of a chore.
