Hello! I am a premedical student at Arizona State University studying neuroscience, as well as human nutrition and health & wellness coaching. I have extensive background knowledge in many STEM subjects, such as anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, biology, algebra, and, of course, neuroscience! Literature and writing skills are also on my list of subjects I'm passionate about tutoring (ask me about my favorite classical literature books!). I have prior experience working with children ages 5 all the way to 16, and have led planned study sessions for lower-level college course modules.
My approach is direct and structured, but also adaptable to the student I am teaching. I have found that breaking concepts down into smaller understandable units that connect to the greater whole of the lesson (along with using concrete examples and prior knowledge) helps students to internalize the logic behind the material. In my experience with teaching others and myself, I have found that answering the ‘Why?’ questions is the best way a student can understand the smaller subunits of the subject, and piece together how it all comes together cohesively. I want the student to feel confident with their independent problem-solving abilities, while having a supportive learning environment where they are free to ask questions. My goal is for each student to leave each session with an improved conceptual understanding and capability to apply that skillset to future lessons.
I allow for an additional 10 minutes per session with no extra charge, just for any extra questions, a need for more explanation of the concept, or if the student feels inclined to talk about anything unrelated to the session, as I believe that building a strong tutor-student relationship encourages deeper learning. I also offer a free consultation meeting for any questions you may have. For any cancellations, a 12-hour notice is recommended, but I understand that life happens, and will not charge for a non-habitual no-show.
