My tutoring approach is tailored to each student’s learning style with the goal of building confidence and integrating useful learning techniques into the student’s academic life. In English, I focus on essay writing, the rules of grammar, formatting and structure. I have experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL); Formal Essay Writing (expository, research, persuasive, literary, etc.) and Creative Writing (narrative, reflective, poetry, etc.); as well as proofreading/editing. I help students with essays for college applications and for academic papers. My role is to guide students and support them through the writing process, and to help them craft strong, compelling narratives that reflect their own voice. I also offer support for other forms of writing, such as blog posts, resumes & cover letters, and coaching on public speaking or giving presentations.
To what extent I contribute to a writer's work depends on where they are in the writing process when I first meet them. For example, students may need help brainstorming topic ideas, while others need help refining and revising the essay(s), or both. When a student has reached the point where they feel confidence in their own talents, I consider my job done. How I tutor depends on your strengths, weaknesses, & goals, so I personalize each lesson to you.
I have a bachelors Degree in English, and have been tutoring ESL students for the last year as I travel the world. I have a focus in career-related writing, such as resumes and cover letters and can coach students on public speaking and interviewing. I have spent the last decade as a salesperson in the insurance industry, so I focus on effective writing techniques that are persuasive and compelling. I have written a nonfiction book, published a blog, and do work as a freelance writer as well as an ESL coach. I am most effective when working with adults and older students (high school and college).
