About Kenneth

With a Master of Education degree from Harvard University, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, as well as teaching experience abroad, I have positioned myself to be able to coach, to tutor, and/or to nurture others. Online or face-to-face, my greatest passion in life is helping people get from where they are to where they want to be.

My areas of tutoring expertise include college essay writing, academic and creative writing, algebra 1+2, geometry, SAT, GRE prep and high school and undergraduate statistics.

I infuse my sense of humor and positivity into nearly all aspects of my life, including my tutoring. A blue belt and certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor, I have truly come to appreciate the benefits of learning from, rather than fearing, my mistakes. This philosophy extends to my tutoring methods as well. Mistakes mean you're learning!

Feel free to reach out with any questions you have or to schedule your lessons.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I passed the TExES Math 4-8 and Math 8-12 exams required of aspiring teachers. This included basic math, algebra, geometry, trig, pre-calc, and probability & statistics. My approach is to simplify the more challenging topics through practical, everyday applications (whenever possible).

College Counseling

With five college degrees earned, I have extensive experience with essay and personal statement writing. Additionally, I understand the holistic approach taken by the top schools. As a result, I can give guidance on how to put one's best foot forward, so to speak.

IELTS

In addition to a master of education from Harvard University, I also possess a 120-hour certificate for teaching English as a foreign language. Moreover, I have extensive academic writing experience including publications.

SAT Math

Formally certified by The Princeton Review, I have a deep understanding of how the SAT is designed and how to approach this "necessary evil." The SAT measures your ability to take the SAT and not much else. I can share the best strategies to tackle even the toughest questions.

Statistics

With two masters degrees in education, I can help you get through this required statistics course that you really wish you didn't have to take. I have taken statistics numerous times over the years (for some reason it was the one class that never transferred from school to school) and helped many students understand the core concepts through my tutoring.

Writing

I have earned a MFA in Creative Writing with Distinction. Moreover, I am a published author, screenwriter, and lyricist. I have served as an editor of a peer-reviewed journal and have extensive experience with academic writing as well as college essays (Common App and program specific) and statements of purpose.

Kenneth is AWESOME!

I truly enjoyed working with Kenneth on my college application essay. It didn't feel like a tutoring session at all. It felt like I was talking to a close friend. He has a fun way of teaching things and an incredible personality. Dont think about it. Pick Kenneth. He is awesome and you won't regret it. My only regret is not finding him sooner!
