I’ve been tutoring for more than 15 years, and I focus on helping students build real skills and confidence. Whether we are working on writing, U.S. history, debate, public speaking, or college and career prep, I customize each session to fit the student’s learning style, personality, and goals.

I hold a Master of Legal Studies from Washington University in St. Louis and earned degrees in Law, Politics & Society and Rhetoric from Drake University. I started my career as a paralegal and now work in government affairs and public policy for a Fortune 500 company. My daily work involves writing, public speaking, and negotiation, and I bring those real-world skills into my tutoring.

My teaching style is warm, focused, and flexible. I believe that students thrive when they feel supported and engaged. I’ve helped students improve grades, write stronger essays, prep for the LSAT, strengthen executive functioning, and learn how to present their ideas clearly and with confidence.

I know that one-size-fits-all education does not work for everyone. I learned this firsthand while studying abroad in Germany, where I gained fluency through immersion rather than a traditional classroom. That experience taught me how powerful one-on-one learning can be, and I bring that perspective to every session.

If you're looking for a tutor who listens, adapts, and helps you reach your goals with clarity and encouragement, I would love to work with you.

ACT English

ACT English

The English and Reading sections of the ACT are often the most overlooked and assumed "known" portions of the test. Because English and reading come naturally to most English speaking high school students, many neglect to study for these important sections, assuming they'll make it through on their merits. This is an unfortunate misconception. The ACT Reading and English sections are designed to test skills you must learn to access. They ask questions in confusing ways in order to ascertain the ability of test takers to learn and think independently. I understand this important part of each section, and therefore can help in meaningful ways to teach you or your student the ins & outs of ACT English, Reading and Writing.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

The ACT/SAT can be daunting exams for any age, but especially for high school juniors and seniors. We have a thought in the American education system that these tests are the end all, be all of college acceptance. This immediately creates stressful emotions, in regard to the tests, and causing otherwise good students to become crippled with testing anxiety. This is where the expertise of a personal tutor comes into play. The ACT is, contrary to popular belief, not the test that will decide the future of a student's educational career. They are important college readiness factors, but not the deciding vote at most colleges/universities. Hiring a tutor, like me, who has mastered the ACT and helped numerous students achieve their desired score, can truly help students realize their potential for college readiness and get accepted to their top schools.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I’ve helped students navigate the college admissions process with clarity, strategy, and confidence. From choosing the right schools to brainstorming and editing personal statements, I guide students through each step with a mix of insight, structure, and support. I’ve personally been accepted to multiple top-tier universities and chose a private liberal arts education at Drake University, where I studied Law, Politics & Society and Rhetoric. With a background in legal writing, public policy, and mentoring, I help students present their accomplishments in a way that feels honest and compelling. Whether you are feeling stuck on your essay topic, unsure how to stand out, or overwhelmed by the process, I’ll help you find your voice and tell your story effectively. Many of my students have gone on to attend their top-choice schools, and I’d love to help you do the same.
Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice

I have a combined 7+ years in the criminal justice industry, with a heavy emphasis on the legal system and legal side of criminal justice. I currently work for an organization that advocates on behalf of crime victims and work directly with law enforcements, courts and county and state prosecutors to ensure victims' rights are being adhered to. My educational background is in law & society and legal jurisprudence which offered me an in-depth educational analysis of criminal justice and criminology.
Debate

Debate

I bring a well-rounded perspective to debate coaching through years of practical experience in argumentation, legal strategy, and public policy. I was a competitive debater in high school and went on to earn a master's certificate in legal negotiation. In my current career, I spend every day advocating for complex public policies, negotiating with government officials, and crafting persuasive messaging. I can help students strengthen their logic, build confidence in public speaking, and learn how to debate with clarity and impact.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I help students craft clear, compelling essays that communicate ideas with confidence and purpose. With a background in legal writing, public policy, and professional editing, I guide students through every stage of the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to final edits. I focus on building strong thesis statements, organized arguments, and a distinct voice. Whether you're writing for class, college applications, or personal development, I’ll help you elevate your writing and express yourself effectively.
General Computer

General Computer

Growing up, I always had a certain interest and fascination with technology. Because of this, I attempted, in every way I could, to understand and figure out the inner workings of computers. Because I have the knowledge of what is happening within the computer and its software, I am able to explain the functions and aspects of different programs in easy-to-understand ways.
German

German

I speak fluent German and have over a decade of experience working with students of all ages and skill levels. I studied the language for three years before moving to Germany for 11 months, where I attended school and immersed myself in the language and culture. That experience gave me a deep understanding of how German is spoken and used in real life, not just in textbooks. I focus on creating a supportive and engaging environment where students can build confidence, improve fluency, and actually enjoy the process. Whether you're learning German for school, travel, or personal growth, I tailor lessons to your goals, pace, and learning style.
Legal Writing

Legal Writing

With over a decade of legal writing experience and a Master of Legal Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, I offer students a practical and professional approach to mastering legal writing. I’ve worked as a paralegal across several practice areas, drafting motions, memos, and research briefs. Now, I work in government affairs and public policy for a Fortune 500 company, where I continue to apply legal reasoning and persuasive writing every day. Whether you're a pre-law student, in a legal studies program, or simply want to strengthen your legal writing, I’ll help you write with clarity, structure, and confidence.
Logic

Logic

Logic is something that comes naturally to me. Because of my early childhood aspirations of becoming a lawyer one day, I began working on logic games and puzzles when I was in 5th grade. I continued to strengthen my ability throughout high school, college and studying for the LSAT. The two logic portions were the top scores I received on the LSAT.
LSAT

LSAT

I spent several years studying for the LSAT and have taken the exam twice under official testing conditions. I developed a deep understanding of each section and how to approach the test with strategy, timing, and confidence. My preparation paid off when I was accepted to Washington University in St. Louis, a top law school, where I later earned my Master of Law degree. Although I chose a career in public policy over a JD, I still use the logic, reasoning, and writing skills from LSAT prep every day. I help students break down question types, build endurance, and create a study plan that actually works. Whether you're starting fresh or aiming to raise your score, I’ll help you approach the LSAT with clarity and confidence.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I have used and believed in the Mac operating system since it hit mainstream production in 2007. All of the technology I currently own operates a Macintosh system and I am an expert in the key strokes, system preferences and general use of this operating system. I use the Mac operating system professionally as well and often lead trainings on the system for coworkers and other departments who have recently adopted the technology.
Martial Arts

Martial Arts

I am trained in ATA Taekwondo. I am a black belt and was a certified junior instructor for many years in high school. The expiration on my certification has run out, but that is only because I have yet to renew it. My skills and black belt are still intact.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have been using excel since I began grade school in the late 90's. It is simply second nature to me. I am a very detail-oriented and highly organized individual, and therefore use excel for all of my budgeting, list making, template creation, mail-merge and studying needs. Also in my career as a paralegal/legal assistant, excel is a tool used frequently and with the assumption of reliability. I am in charge of setting up the templates, ledgers, form-fill templates and more.
Music History

Music History

I studied music in college with a focus on vocal performance, and I bring that academic foundation to every music history lesson. My background in choral singing, voice training, and classical repertoire gives me a rich understanding of how music evolved across eras, cultures, and styles. I help students connect historical context with musical expression, making composers, movements, and traditions feel relevant and alive. Whether you're preparing for an exam or looking to deepen your knowledge, I’ll help you engage with music history in a meaningful way.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I was a vocal performance music major in undergrad for two years before pursuing my legal education and switching to a music minor. Theory and composition were always areas that I excelled, outside of performing.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I’ve helped dozens of students craft personal statements that are clear, compelling, and true to their voice. With over 15 years of experience as a tutor and mentor, and a strong background in legal writing and college counseling, I know how to guide students through the tricky balance of authenticity and strategy. I help break down the writing process into manageable steps and offer detailed, supportive feedback that strengthens structure, tone, and clarity. Whether you're applying to college, law school, med school or a graduate program, I’ll help you tell your story with confidence.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have over a decade of proofreading experience rooted in academic, legal, and admissions writing. My undergraduate degree in Rhetoric focused on writing, speaking, and argument structure, and I’ve since worked with students across the country on essays, applications, and research projects. I help writers make sure their ideas are clear, their structure is strong, and their grammar is correct. I also spent seven years as a paralegal, where I proofread legal briefs and motions with an intense focus on clarity and precision. In the legal field, mistakes can have serious consequences, so I learned to catch even the smallest errors. I bring that same level of care and attention to every project I review. Whether you're polishing a college paper or preparing a professional document, I’ll help make your writing as strong and effective as possible.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I was a member of a highly ranked Illinois speech team for 4 years. I worked my way up to captain of the team after winning numerous first place awards (both novice and expert) in a variety of events. My expertise is extemporaneous speaking, oratory, argumentation, special occasion speaking and informative speeches. I also hold a degree from Drake University on Rhetoric, which required a large course load of public speaking.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

I learned to read music using solfege (do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do) and continued to sight sing throughout college and used solfege to learn all of the music I needed to learn for the top touring ensemble at Drake University. Solfege has become a second language to me, now, and I was entrusted to help younger members of the ensemble perfect their solfege and sight singing.
Speech

Speech

As the former captain of my high school speech team and a decorated competitive speaker, I developed a deep love for public speaking early on. Today, I speak professionally as part of my career in government affairs, representing a Fortune 500 company on panels and advocating for public policy across the country. I help students build confidence, structure strong speeches, and deliver with clarity and presence. Whether you're preparing for a competition, class presentation, or professional event, I’ll help you find your voice and own the room.
Swimming

Swimming

I have been swimming competitively since I was in 5th grade. Throughout high school and college, I worked as a lifeguard, private swim instructor and swim team coach. Though my schedule does not permit me to teach lessons on a daily basis any longer, I do enjoy helping students as much as I can during my available hours.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

With over 15 years of tutoring experience and a Master of Legal Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, I help students tackle complex writing projects with structure and confidence. I’ve supported students through undergraduate honors theses, graduate capstones, and legal research papers, guiding them from the early planning stages through final edits. My background in legal writing, public policy, and professional editing allows me to offer clear feedback on argument development, organization, and academic voice. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I’ll help you break your thesis into manageable steps and bring your ideas to life.
United States History

United States History

I bring U.S. history to life by connecting the past to the present, drawing on my academic background and real-world work in government and public policy. With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I help students understand key historical events, analyze primary sources, and build strong essays and arguments. I’ve worked in roles that require a deep understanding of American institutions, laws, and movements, and I use that context to make history meaningful and accessible. Whether you're preparing for an AP exam or trying to improve your grades, I’ll help you approach U.S. history with confidence and clarity.
Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I hold a vocal music degree from Drake University, where I studied voice for four years in the university’s top touring ensemble. During that time, I also took private voice lessons with a tenured faculty member and focused on technique, tone, and performance skills. I help students strengthen their vocal ability through warm-ups, breathing exercises, pitch control, and musical expression. Whether you're preparing for an audition, building confidence, or just love to sing, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow as a vocalist.
Writing

Writing

Writing has always been one of my strongest skills. I have a background in Rhetoric, legal writing, and public policy, and I’ve helped students with everything from research papers and speeches to personal statements and creative work. I’ve also received recognition for my own writing and public speaking, and I bring that experience into every tutoring session. Whether you need help organizing your ideas, strengthening your arguments, or finding the right words, I’ll work with you to make your writing clear, thoughtful, and effective. I focus on helping students build lasting skills and feel confident in their voice, no matter the assignment.

Helpful and Personalized Tutoring

Sarah was a very kind and patient tutor who listened to my concerns on what questions I was missing on the LSAT and quickly identified why, as well as how I can overcome my common mistakes. She gave me multiple tools that cater to my specific learning style as well as light homework to practice utilizing those tools. I would recommend her to anyone who needs help increasing their score on the LSAT. She was very easy to talk to and answered all of my questions.
