Hello Parents and Students!
My name is Maya C. and I teach Japanese and Korean.
I have been working as a Japanese teacher for over 10 years and am JLPT N1, ACTFL, and State Certified in Japanese Education. I am also state certified in Social Studies and have taught World and U.S. history at the middle and high school levels.
I lived and worked in South Korea for 3 years at both the elementary and middle school level, and return to Korea every year to visit family. My experience with Korean and Japanese at home, school, and work, has given me a deep, practical understanding of both languages and cultures, allowing me to bring real-world context, cultural insight, and authentic communication skills into my classroom.
I was also an advisor at a Japanese Women's University for 5 years and worked extensively providing academic and personal guidance for students in Japanese.
My hobbies and interests include anime, manga, K-Pop, drawing, and K-dramas.
Due to my background in second language acquisition in multiple languages and cultures, I understand the best ways to help students learn, and different teaching styles to help all types of learners.
My motto is that “Learning is just another word for fun!” I hope that all my students can find genuine enjoyment and love for Japanese! Here is my website if you would like to learn more or explore my teaching materials: https://mayacho.wixsite.com/home
I look forward to seeing you in class :)
Thank you!
