Hi! My name is Jacqueline. A bit about my personal experience as a writer: I recently graduated from Vassar College with a bachelor's degree in cognitive science and statistics, two writing-intensive majors that had me routinely generating and defending original writing. I am currently preparing both my 115-page thesis and a separate research manuscript for publication. In high school I was valedictorian and scored a five on both the AP Lang and AP Lit College Board exams. This foundation has allowed me to help others as a writing tutor.
My 6+ years of experience have spanned classroom roles, one-on-one volunteering, and volunteer higher-ed consulting. This past year I worked as a professional teaching assistant for a cognitive science college course with 60+ students, where I supported them through every stage of essay writing. I’ve spent the past six years as a volunteer editor for peers ranging from early teens to late twenties, working across genres including classic essay styles (argumentative, narrative, etc.), theses, higher-ed application essays, and research materials (literature reviews, manuscripts, etc.). I have learned from a professional higher-ed application consultant who has helped students gain admission to top ten college and grad programs nationwide, and I most recently volunteered to help a med school applicant revise her application essays, where my feedback consistently lined up with what she was hearing from her own paid tutor.
I bring an explanation-forward style of tutoring, as well as the specialized knowledge to help higher-ed applicants put their best foot forward. I can work with anything from a 500 word personal statement to a 50,000 word manuscript, and I explain the reasoning behind each suggestion so that you can make informed decisions and apply your new expertise in the future. I have a strong understanding of generative AI through my research, but I do not depend on it for any of my work; I will only use GAI if you explicitly state you are comfortable with GAI usage.
