Our experience with Ed W. was exceptional. Our son had significant writing challenges that ranged from simple mechanics and spelling to more complex sentence structure needs. Through Ed’s approach and assistance, our son has significantly improved his capacity as a writer.

We still have work to do, and Ed will be a part of that future. By spending time with our son, Ed created a customized approach and strategy to help achieve the basics and the more complex needs of writing. Ed always came prepared and ready to teach. Timothy looked forward to his time with Ed and felt that Ed truly understood how to teach him so he would learn the material. Ed had a way of relating to Timothy by using his personal interests and incorporating these into the lesson. Ed would follow up each session with a detailed critique of the session, and plans for future meetings.
We have been very pleased with his teaching techniques and his flexibility to modify the content to fill the specific needs we have. We think Ed is fantastic in his ability to help children become better writers. We would welcome further discussion about Ed and his teaching skills, as he is a fine educator whom we feel very lucky to have taught, and continue to teach our son.

American History

American History

I have taught American history for six years. I have been a researcher and writer for nearly a dozen museum exhibits in Texas, ranging from the American Airpower Heritage Museum in Midland to Heritage Hall at Southern Methodist University.
Basketball

Basketball

I particularly can help your shooting and defense. After being selected all-state at Weymouth High School in Massachusetts, I started at No. 2 guard for Dartmouth College where I played against players such as Basketball Hall of Famer Dr. J (Julius Erving)from UMass, former NBA Rookie-of-the-Year Geoff Petrie from Princeton, and former LA Lakers starter Jim McMillian from Columbia. I have coached in a number of summer camps and also a middle school boys team from the Torah Day School of Dallas for two years. I can help you with rotation on your shot, squaring yourself to the basket when shooting, and how to get free for an open shot using backdoor moves and screens. Defensively, I can especially help with footwork, fighting over picks and switching, guarding the baseline, and taking the charge.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have a Master's Degree in Theologicial Studies from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, where I also served as a chaplain assistant for five years.
Career Development

Career Development

I had more than 10 years' experience (1995-2006) operating a career development program for student-athletes at Southern Methodist University through a program I created - PALS (Preparing Achievers for Lifetime Success). During that time, I assisted more than 1,000 students with resumes, interview skills, and job placement (both for summer and full-time jobs).
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with elementary school-aged children in writing for more than two years through Wyzant. I helped a set of triplets in writing for more than one year. They were 4th-5th graders at the time. I also tutored a second grade student in reading through the Region 10 program in Richardson/Dallas for more than one year. I am also a full-time teacher of 5th and 6th graders in history.

I have taught social studies for the past five years as chair of the history department at Torah Day School of Dallas. I have also traveled extensively to 36 countries and 49 states and have a vast first-hand knowledge of places around the world and their histories and cultures.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I assisted a sixth grade student with writing and study skills for six months through WyzAnt. The student had significant organizational problems that hampered his ability to keep up with his work. I assisted him in creating an organized binder that helped him quite a bit. I also taught him how to study passages from his book and combine the important points them with his class notes. I also helped motivate the student to study by giving him positive reinforcement and holding him accountable for completing his homework.
