To ensure that students get the most out of each lesson, the first tutoring session involves a discussion of scheduling, academic focus, goal setting, and materials to be used. I tailor lessons to each student's needs and can create personalized Google Slides lessons to make sessions exciting and interactive. Depending on the age of the student, these slides may include games, activities, written content, and flow charts. Each session, I will check in with students and evaluate their strengths and potential areas for improvement to ensure that we stay on track in reaching their goals.
I have experience tutoring in a variety of subjects, but biology and English are two of my specialties. In addition to receiving a score of 5 on the AP Biology exam, I have extensive biology research experience. I was awarded Best in Show at the New York State Science and Engineering Fair, qualifying me as an International Science and Engineering Fair finalist. I published research on the use of cardiac-inducing colonies to promote tissue regeneration after a heart attack in Molecular Biology of the Cell, and I am currently researching the genetics underlying degenerative mitral valve disease. Additionally, I have taken a variety of English classes and received a score of 5 on both the AP Language and Composition and AP Literature and Composition exams. I strive to help students find their own voice and style in their writing while still maintaining clear delivery of their ideas.
