Hey there! My name's Ryan. I graduated magna cum laude from Biola University with a Bachelor's degree in philosophy, minoring in biblical studies and English. Throughout my academic career, I've worked alongside brilliant, gentle, charitable professors. They always made time for me when I didn't understand the material thoroughly; and I aim to provide the same for my students. I taught middle school English for a year, and before that, I substituted for my old high school for a year as well. Tutoring provides a safe environment to work through concepts, practices, and readings more personally. I love it when my students have the "aha!" moment and see the world anew. That, to me, is the joy of tutoring.
In addition to reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar, I also teach study skills and work with students to devise a helpful test prep plan for them. Most of my academic training is classical. Therefore, I involve students in dialogue about big ideas from great books. I also have some field experience in writing articles for independent websites. Though technologically adept, I often opt against it in tutoring. Doing so has yielded exceptional results. Lastly, I graduated from a Christian university with a Bible-based education and am currently enrolled in seminary.
