Bonjour !
My name is John (my students call me Monsieur) and I am a French teacher, multi-subject tutor, former chef, sound engineer, but a father first. My educational background is extensive: I have a BS in Recording Industry with minors in French, Electro-Acoustics, and Mathematics; a BA in French, an MA in French Language and Literature, and a MEd in Secondary Education. Professionally, I have been a teacher in both public and private educational environments and have worked with students from the ages of 8 to 65. Currently, I am a full-time French teacher at a high school in Arizona teaching advanced French classes including AP, AP/IB Capstone, Dual Enrollment 101-102 (beginning college French) and 201-202 (intermediate college French).

I have lived, worked, and traveled throughout France and have been to several other countries around the world. My experiences have shaped me extensively and my students like the way I can combine my experiences with teaching to make the material come to life--or provide a funny anecdote.

French is one of the most popular languages in the world. Whether you want to learn, improve, or simply practice your language skills, I will help you. My background has provided me with extensive knowledge of multiple subjects and I will also gladly help anyone who can benefit from my knowledge and experience.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have 24 credit hours in Mathematics, mostly Calculus and Differential Equations. However, it has been awhile, so I stick to Algebra 1 because I enjoy it and find it to be a fundamental step towards applying mathematics to life--one learns to determine unknowns.
American History

American History

During the preparation of a PhD, I studied nationalism and the rise of the modern state. As a result, I studied American history.
European History

European History

Preparing a graduate degree in French language and literature demands a background European history. Further, my students in Nations and Nationalism also requires an extensive knowledge of European history.

French

I have both an undergraduate and graduate degree in French as well as secondary and International Baccalaureate certification. My experiences working and living in France and Francophone countries provide me with a significant amount of insight into the spoken language. I have taught French for the past six years in secondary and higher education institutions.
Geography

Geography

World languages requires a knowledge of the world. My focus may be the Francophone world, but geography plays a huge part in my teaching since it helps us understand our situation in the world.

I have published academic material and have given professional lectures. My teaching experiences has required that I instruct students on their grammar both in French and English.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Over the course of my experience, I have had to proofread everything from business to business emails to academic articles and other texts. I have also presented in several professional settings to groups both large and small, which required a significant amount of proofreading.

World History

My many years of working with French language and literature have provided me with additional experience in World History due to their academic proximity. Further, I am a specialist in (French) colonization and North Africa (Algeria) as well as theories of Nations and Nationalism(s). These interests form a strong background in World History.

Very knowledgeable, always well-prepared, and extreme patient!

Mr. John has been helping my son, an 11 grader, on his IB French class. My son's grade has been greatly improved after a couple of months tutor. Mr. John also helps enhance my son's passion and self-confidence on French learning. Great French tutor!
