I am my best self in the classroom. Teaching is something that drives me to bring out the very best in my students while making me more articulate, patient and attentive. There is nothing more enjoyable than helping a student deepen their content knowledge while expanding their communication skills.

I have a PhD in World History, an MA in modern Japanese history and a BA in English Literature and Philosophy. I've been a teacher throughout my studies. I've taught Japanese, History and English (including ESL) at all levels, from kindergarten to university, online and in-person, in the United States and abroad. I've also been tutoring since I was in high school, working in tutoring labs, writing centers and organizations specializing in test-preparation and college admission.

I design tutoring sessions around your learning goals. Tell me what you're working on or want to learn and I will develop an approach that fits perfectly with those needs. If you're looking for a tutor who will actively listen and modulate instruction based on you, please write.

Japanese Qualifications

I've been engaged in academic Japanese-language research and education for almost a decade. But before that, I studied the language on my own, enough to test out of lower-level college courses. As a result I'm familiar with a wide range of materials, approaches and methods that I would be happy to share with you.

World History Qualifications

I have a PhD in the field, with over 45 graduate-level credit hours in preparation. I've taught the AP, or college-level equivalent, more times than I can count and continue to teach it now. I also grade for the College Board annually and have worked on now-published AP-approved materials.

English Language, Literature, Writing and Proofreading Qualifications

I completed 42 course hours in language, literature and composition classes. After graduating, I taught English Literature and Language/Composition grades 9-12, honors and AP. I've also tutored reading and writing for over a decade, served as an external reviewer for a peer-reviewed journal in History, and have several publications of my own.

Adam again knocked it out of the park for me. He encourages me to not be so hard on myself. He puts me at ease so I can start to really learn this stuff. He is patient with me. I'm glad I found him to teach me Japanese.

So very helpful

Adam is great at getting my son to focus on working on his key fundamentals to be able to move forward. He really ensures that my son fully understands the pieces they work on. He won't move forward until my son has it down. Adam is a wonderful tutor. Looking forward to several more sessions and seeing how my son continues to improve.

Knowledgeable and so helpful

I never write reviews, but Adam was such a great tutor he was able to help me compile my paper on such short notice and explained what I actually had to do in a much easier way. Additionally if I needed to contact him he was always very respondent even on his own time. He even read all my historical documents given in class and we discussed each one through so I understood what I could use for evidence to make my paper strong! Highly recommend Adam and for my next assignment I will be using him again since the whole process helped me understand the history I was studying even more than I thought I could.

Michael, 2 lessons with Adam

very knowledgeable tutor

Adam was a huge help to my son who is a sophomore in High School taking an online Japanese class. He gave my son resources to help him, led him in a positive direction. I'm sure after the holiday break we will be using Adam again. Thank you so much for giving my son some hope in his class.

Knowledgeable tutor!

I am an ESL student and studied world history with Adam. I have to say that he put all of his effort into making me achieve my goals because that is the only thing he cares about, not the time or the money. He won't let you off if you don't completely understand the content. Instead, he'll explain it in other ways until you get it.

Excellent Instructor

Adam is a thorough and committed Japanese tutor. The attention to detail of language is superb. Would highly recommend Adam to anyone who wanted to learn more about the culture and traditions of Japan before they travel.
