For me, teaching is about unleashing the best in my students. It is about helping them develop the skills, awareness and knowledge needed to succeed not only in their core studies but in anything they set out to learn and master. When my students succeed I do as well.

I have been teaching for over a decade in in-person and online classrooms in the United States and in Japan. I serve annually as an AP grader. I have worked in and managed writing centers/labs, specializing in essay revision and college entrance applications. With a PhD in World History, an MA in modern Japanese history and a BA in English Literature and Philosophy, I am here to assist students in History, English, Japanese and proofreading/writing.

I design tutoring sessions based on what you need and want to learn. We will take the time to assess the skills and content you need, assess the materials that are available to ascertain which fits best with the way(s) you learn, and calibrate accordingly. Every session is not only an opportunity to learn but to modify our approach until it as smooth and effective as possible. If you are looking for a tutor who will actively listen and modulate instruction based on you, please write.

AP History, fantastic, patient

This Lesson gave my daughter the confidence she needed going into the first part of her final which she had been lacking all year. We don’t know the grade yet but the fact that after she took the final and felt like she knew what she was doing and answered the essays well is a huge step gained.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Adam helped me to understand AP European history. I know I can make arrangements with him when I am stuck on a perspective and he will clear it up for me. He also makes the historical facts interesting!

Cheyenne, 3 lessons with Adam

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Adam has helped my daughter tremendously in High School English and AP History. He prepared her for a Socratic seminar on All Quiet on the Western Front in which she scored the highest in her class. Her history scores have dramatically improved. I could not ask for a better tutor.

Very intelligent and caring tutor

This was the 2nd session my 17-year-old son had with Adam on a timed essay. Adam is clearly a very intelligent person with a warm heart. He was not only able to point out exactly what my son needed to work on but also coached him to be more confident. We were so happy that we found him!

Patient and great tutor

Adam is a great, responsible tutor. My son took help from Adam for English and History assignments. My son is not a great writer, but Adam took the time and understand my son's needs and help him. Now my son feels very comfortable writing his essays and we are happy to find him.

Actively engaged tutor with helpful suggestions!

Wow! Adam not only made necessary improvements to a thesis paper (on a challenging subject), but he also made suggestions on how to rework the format to make the arguments more convincing. Turn around time was fast on multiple drafts.

Great tutor

My son was impressed with his first lesson. He told me mom he’s a genius. He knows everything and explained to me in such an easy way. Also he said he’s a cool tutor. The empathy is part of the success. I'm glad we've chosen Adam.

Very helpful

I was having trouble with compiling a DBQ packet into an essay, we scheduled a time with ease. He jumped right in with me and we took notes to get ready for the essay. Now I feel ready to draft my essay.
