About Armin

Bio

I have a 25-year background in IT, which has provided me with deep insights in both applied mathematics and sciences as well as experience in explaining new and seemingly complicated subjects to those for whom they are new territories. Having trained varied age groups from teenagers to retirees in anything from the use of smart phones and the Internet at large to programming, I have built a broad knowledge of how to relate information in an understandable fashion.

I have a 25-year background in IT, which has provided me with deep insights in both applied mathematics and sciences as well as experience in explaining new and seemingly complicated subjects to those for whom they are new territories. Having trained varied age groups from teenagers to retirees in anything from the use of smart phones and the Internet at large to programming, I have built a broad knowledge of how to relate information in an understandable fashion.

My education includes completion of the highest tier of the German secondary school system, mastering in mathematics and physics (1986), as well as graduating from the Control Data Institute in Frankfurt/Main with a degree in Computer Science / COBOL Programming (1990).

My recent tutoring experience spans several years, including local freelance work (Craigslist/Backpage; 2010-2016) and work with a local company, specializing in tutoring for high school and college student with learning disabilities (HD Education; 2014-2016).

In these past years I have worked with students ranging in age from 15-26 and tutored subjects ranging from geometry and physics over algebra I and II and trigonometry to calculus. Additionally, I have trained adults in the use of computers (Windows, Mac O/S, IOS, Android), the use of common on-line business tools (Google AdWords, Apps, Webmaster Tools, Analytics) and the use of standard business software (MS Office, QuickBooks).

Prior to this I have spend several years tutoring college students and other adults in German, incl. conversational German, German business writing. I have also freelanced as a translator for German-English and English-German translations of marketing materials and technical manuals.

My tutoring style is different: As a result of my work in IT - programming, designing, infrastructure - I can not only explain the theory of math and science topics, but also show concrete applications of the learned material. I am also familiar with Cisco products and the use of Packet Tracer.

CSS3), PHP, ASP, Python, as well as SQL (MSSQL & MySQL/MariaDB), JavaScript, and also the design part of it, using Photoshop, etc. Major projects include: Building the initial web presence for a Phoenix, AZ publishing company, including a dozen of their 10+ niche market magazines, and site redesign for a Tempe, AZ based, travel abroad company, optimizing the work flow and to improve search engine rankings. I currently maintain my own servers and a total of just under 100 web sites for clients in AZ, CA and NJ.

Best teacher I could ask for!

Armin is a wonderful teacher! I did about 4 or 5 lessons with him and we went over most areas for the ASVAB test. I scored in the 73 percentile and can take ANY of the Air Force jobs, that's 144 jobs. He's a great teacher BECAUSE he is good at making you SEE or visualize what you're learning. At least that's what stood out for me, that's how I learn. But even for explaining things, he's got awesome/funny analogies, and has great character. So you are GOING to learn, you know? We went over the basics of each subject but I feel if I wanted to learn more I would go right back to him again. Take a few lessons with him, you'll learn a lot!

Get comprehension on Networking concepts and his patience is refreshing

Armin S taught me to feel confident with any route selected in approaching a project management task by breaking it down into individual task of the OSI model. And realizing you need to use the model number of the networking devices to see which NERC CIP-001 to -014 in order to keep all compliance rules covered within the industry designing a network upgrade. And in my case it was two legacy networks joined together, so he educated me on best alternative for doing this. Many of these principles have been covered in Network+, Security+, CCNA200-301 vol. 1 studies but have never been discussed in how to present in a senior acapstone project. Thanks Armin S!!!
