My name is Laura, I have been teaching music lessons since 2001. I am also a Board Certified Music Therapist. While I do not provide music therapy in my music lessons, my training allows me to be more observant, flexible and adaptable in my teaching. I teach piano and music theory. I tailor lessons to each particular student's musical abilities and interests.

I organize a recital every spring and every fall for my students. Performing is a good way to teach students to work towards a goal, to work within a time limit, to work on noticing and fixing details, to boost self-confidence, and to learn how to be supportive of others. I often do these recitals in local skilled nursing facilities and/or assisted living facilities. This gives the students a chance to volunteer, and be apart of the community.

My music therapy background has also taught me how to redirect kids to help them stay on task. I can also provide creative alternatives to learning and memory aids through the use of rhythm and/or melody. I have experience working with kids with cognitive, motor and speech delays. I would be happy to work with any child with these difficulties in music lessons.
