Hello. My name is Nazli. As a bilingual speaker of English and Turkish and an avid second language learner, I enjoy teaching English and Turkish. I speak French and Spanish as well. I was 12 years old when I started to learn French in Izmir, Turkey. I went to a francophone middle school and high school there where all the materials were taught in French. After graduating from high school, I received my B.A. in Philosophy from Bogazici University in Istanbul. During my university years, I continued to take French Literature and French Translation/Interpreting classes. I also have an M.A. degree in Public Relations. Despite working in the field of public relations, I found my passion in teaching and tutoring languages. I graduated from the University of Central Florida in Spring 2022 and earned my M.A. degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have a special interest in teaching foreign languages to English speakers and in teaching English to speakers of other languages such as Turkish, French, or Spanish.

Learning new languages has enriched my emotional and intellectual world and taught me new ways of making sense of the world’s different realities. Gaining proficiency at a second language is an ongoing process. I love sharing my passion for languages, setting realistic goals for my students, and reaching those goals together. I tutor Turkish as a second language or foreign language to English speakers. I also offer tutoring sessions to teach English with an emphasis on daily communication, practical grammar and vocabulary drills tailored to students’ unique needs. I work with students of all ages ranging from K-12 to college-level. I also tutor adults from different age groups within the context of higher degree research, business, and traveling needs. Welcome to my Elementary Turkish class. I tutor Turkish as a second language to English speakers. As a native of Turkey, I have taught Turkish to students with various backgrounds and needs such as academic, research, business, family, and traveling. My class is based on detailed grammar explanations with examples of everyday speech. I follow the curriculum of Kurtulus Oztopcu's book ''Elementary Turkish'' which is widely used in various universities in the U.S. In this class, I utilize contemporary dialogues and vocabulary to support students' language learning processes. Starting with the easiest grammar lessons and growing into using more complex grammatical aspects together, students are guided to continuously observe and practice daily conversational Turkish in order to allow them to ease into learning more complex grammatical structures in this agglutinating language. In this class, students will be able to speak and understand Turkish at an everyday level and use what they have previously learned by incorporating more sophisticated language items into daily linguistic practices. All the materials chosen for this class include highly used idioms, words, expressions, and grammatical structures with contextual references tailored to students' needs. I provide a deeper focus on speaking and pronunciation through comparative discussions about Turkish culture and its diverse population at every lesson, allowing students to discover more about the Turkish language as it is spoken today. With 24+ years of experiences in teaching Turkish, I am confident that students will be engaged, motivated, and empowered to use and speak the language starting from the very first lesson as my main aim is to provide a means for students to become immersed into the Turkish language with carefully designed lessons around specific topics tailored to their needs and long-term goals.
