Previous to that, I have also worked as a Japanese language teacher/tutor for 100-300 level (beginner to advanced) students who wish to learn the language or improve. Through these experiences, I learned that I enjoy helping people understand new concepts and learn, pushing me to try tutoring outside of an academic program.
I have experience tutoring in several different settings ranging from more one on one environments to a group lecture sized session. Though my higher level education is focused on chemistry, with my undergraduate degree in biochemistry I have enough experience and knowledge to confidently teach high school/undergraduate level biology and physics as well. Furthermore, being half Japanese, I have spoken Japanese my whole life, allowing me to easily fit a Japanese major into my undergraduate schedule. I have experience with both the language and culture, and am more than happy to share with students who are curious.
Finally I wanted to also express the importance of the PSAT throughout my educational career. Though many think the P stands for Practice, it actually stands for Preliminary and provides an opportunity larger than any high school student can expect. I was able to acquire a position as a National Merit Finalist, the first step to a large sum of scholarship which supported me through the rest of my educational career. I want to let young students know of this opportunity, as I know all of my friends were not aware at the time. Scoring well on the PSAT not only gives you this opportunity, but also acts as SAT prep just through the nature of the test.
I have direct experience teaching students at the undergraduate level and high school level, and would be comfortable tutoring Japanese language for any age, though I do not have experience directly tutoring students under high school.
