I’m Jamie! I’m a former middle school ELA teacher and reading interventionist, and have been an educator for the last 3+ years. I’m Jamie! I’m a former middle school ELA teacher and reading interventionist, and have been an educator for the last 3+ years. I tutor because students need individual and small group support in order to thrive, and I have seen first hand most students are not getting it in a traditional classroom.
This became apparent to me in less than one semester, when I helped 8th graders who were reading at a 1st grade level reach a 6th grade level in testing. I’ve also supported middle school ELL students in building confidence with reading, writing, and public speaking. My sessions are patient, straightforward, and designed around each student’s individual needs so progress feels achievable. I’m also happy to integrate Social Emotional Learning activities that double as reading and writing practice, giving students both academic growth and personal confidence.
I earned my BA in Film from the University of Arizona in 2017 and served as the founding class president of the Sigma Colony for Delta Kappa Alpha, a professional cinematic society. After graduation I worked at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for four years. I moved back to Arizona during the pandemic, and chose to stay to be near family. Transitioning into education was a natural next step because I love helping kids. My background in film and the Academy give me strong communication and organizational skills, with a unique perspective and stories I can carry into every lesson.
Whether a student needs intensive reading intervention, stronger writing, or general ELA support, I meet them where they are and create a tailored plan that builds skills and confidence. Parents can count on me to be consistent, approachable, and invested in their child’s success.
