Hello! My name is Jake, and I’ve been dedicated to education since 2014, when I began my journey as a 5th grade teacher. Since then, I’ve worn many hats—teacher, tutor, instructional coach, counselor, and even contributed behind the scenes in administrative roles. Each of these experiences has deepened my understanding of how students learn and what they need to feel supported.

My background includes a degree in education and a certification as a school counselor, which I pursued to better support students’ emotional and mental well-being. I believe that in order for learning to truly stick, we must care for the whole child—not just their academics, but their confidence, curiosity, and sense of safety.

Over the years, I’ve primarily worked with elementary and middle school students, both in classroom settings and through one-on-one tutoring. My approach is always student-centered. That means I tailor each lesson to fit the unique learning style and needs of the child in front of me. I use hands-on strategies, encourage collaboration, and strive to create a warm, judgment-free space where students feel safe taking risks and growing from their mistakes.

During my time in the classroom, my students consistently scored at the top of district assessments, and I earned high ratings in my teaching evaluations. But more importantly, I built strong, lasting relationships with students and families—a value that became even more important during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teaching online for a full year was a powerful reminder that kids are so much more than test scores. They are individuals with different strengths, interests, and ways of learning.

That’s why I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. I adapt to the learner—not the other way around. My work is grounded in empathy, flexibility, and the belief that every student has the potential to thrive when given the right tools and support.
