Hi, I’m James! I tutor College Statistics and Biostatistics, and I love helping students finally feel like the material makes sense. A lot of people can memorize formulas, but what really changes everything is understanding what the test is doing, when to use it, and how to explain results clearly. I also help students apply stats in R and Python so homework, labs, and research projects stop feeling like guesswork.

By day, I’m an Imaging Research Specialist at Barrow Neurological Institute, where I work with real biomedical datasets and build analysis workflows in Python, R, MATLAB, and Bash/Linux for MRI and PET research. That experience carries straight into tutoring. I’m very comfortable translating messy real-world problems into clean steps you can follow, whether you’re studying for an exam or trying to get your code and analysis working for a class project.

I also tutor Data Structures and Algorithms and core CS courses. If you feel stuck on problem solving, Big-O, recursion, or how to choose the right data structure, I can help you build the patterns and intuition so things start clicking. I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from California State University, Fullerton and completed research internships at University of Southern California and University of California, Irvine, where I worked on brain aging and Alzheimer’s-related projects using statistics and machine learning.

My tutoring style is supportive and very hands-on. We’ll pinpoint exactly where you’re getting stuck, work through it step by step, and make sure you leave the session with real understanding plus working code and clear notes. If you’re putting in the effort and want a tutor who’s patient, practical, and genuinely excited to help you improve, I’d love to work with you.
