Teaching people how to cook with the basics is to know the hidden knowledge behind making a tender roast with delicious gravy and savory spaghetti sauce with noodles cooked perfectly. If you are feeling overwhelmed, meet with me to help!

To make our cooking session most beneficial, there are options available. Not only we can use Wyzant video conferencing on the laptop to discuss our session but also can add Microsoft Teams or Zoom on the phone so that I can be involved with you in your kitchen for hands on learning. We can discuss which way works best for you to learn how to begin grocery shopping, menu planning, and cooking for upcoming meals.

An opportunity to earn a 2-year culinary arts school degree from the best learning environment ever for cooking with the highest quality ingredients, equipment, and chef instructors. My 4-year dietetics degree complements my cooking degree. This education enabled me to experience all aspects of food and beverages in the culinary world of pastry, bakery, entrees, and side dishes. Putting my knowledge to work in many restaurants as a breakfast, lunch, and dinner cook, enjoying food, drink, and the atmosphere.

Frequently cooking at home using only the freshest ingredients hand-chosen by me and then home to create a homemade soup, jazzing up a frozen pizza or baked chicken. With many recipe books to choose from, following the recipe accurately and then tweaking it to make it even better! Being an old-fashioned cook, I never use a microwave except for reheating.

Have completed television cooking segments on Good Morning Arizona and written culinary and nutrition articles.
I help students pass the Dietary Managers Certification Test (CDM) and Certified Food Protection Professional Exam (CFPP). Will require pertinent information (study material) before meeting to best meet your needs.

Cooking

Greetings. I am a chef, registered dietitian, and certified diabetes care and education specialist. I have a 2-year culinary arts degree and have worked in restaurants, hospital and long-term care kitchens and as personal chef. Nutrition and culinary consulting include grocery store and dining out tours for hands on learning. I am all about food and nutrition and enjoy educating people on how to cook great food, menu planning, and how easy it is to add nutrition, starting with the basics! Feeling overwhelmed and do not know where to start? Ask me how to: * Menu planning. * Cooking with a crockpot or regular cook ware. * Grocery shop and reading labels. * Cook from scratch. * How to portion size. * Downsize processed food consumption. * What to do with leftovers for fridge, freezer, and pantry storage. Favorite foods include: * Spaghetti Sauce (meat or vegetarian) * Chili (meat or vegetarian) * Turn a frozen pizza into a healthier choice * Twice-baked potatoes * Homemade ham broth and chicken broth * White bean soup * Split pea soup * Air pop popcorn * Chicken soup * Chicken pot pie * Oatmeal cookies (make a dessert healthier) * Chicken tostadas * Sauteed zucchini * Steam vegetables * Cooking for one, including strategies for preparing one protein, a starch, and a vegetable to create a complete meal.
Nutrition

Nutrition

I am a chef, registered dietitian nutritionist, and certified diabetes care and education specialist. An extensive educational background includes graduating from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Chemistry, as well as a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training. A certification in diabetes and a two-year degree in culinary arts complement the nutrition degree. It is an exceptional combination of education and experience. For the past 20 years, I have worked in many areas of healthcare, food service, community, and university research studies (planning and conducting programs, mentoring, conducting food and physical activity questionnaires, data entry, and medical nutrition and culinary terminology). The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Association of Diabetes Educators keep me updated with the ever-changing world of nutrition and diabetes. A history of Toastmasters International and speech classes refined my communication skills to convey understanding while emphasizing the seriousness of health issues. Becoming an online content creator has allowed me to perfect my educational expertise, helping people learn about nutrition, diabetes, and food. I have completed media cooking segments on Good Morning Arizona, written blog posts, and self-published workbooks.

5-star Consultation

I had a consultation with Leah and it was amazing. Most consultations are no more than 30 minutes where I share what brought me to looking for a cooking tutor, what I’m looking to get out of tutoring, and what the instructor has to offer. Leah not only had that conversation with me but she also came prepared with materials and recipes for us to go over in the consultation. We used a full hour! She’s knowledgeable and I definitely walked away with information that I had never heard of before. Pleasant to talk to and very understanding!
