Hi, I'm Dan! I am a software engineer who studied Computer Science at Arizona State University. To give some tutoring background, I first volunteered as an online math tutor for students at Desert Vista High School, helping them with Algebra and Geometry questions. Through Wyzant, I have had over 15 students with 50+ hours of tutoring, and I have taught various subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Java. I also received a 1530 in my SAT score with a 790 in my Math score, so I also teach students about SAT math as well. I teach students both online and in-person, usually meeting somewhere in the ASU campus or in some other public place.

I employ several methods of teaching students depending on their skill level. For example, I will ask more active recall questions if I believe the student is less skilled in the subject, whereas if the student is more skilled I provide short, clarifying statements to not waste the student’s time and focus on the key issue they have. I also try to give multiple ways to look at a problem, so that if one explanation does not stick, I can change my explanation as needed so that the student can slowly build their own way of understanding the problem. Learning new concepts is rarely understood the first time, so having multiple ways to explain a problem is something I believe helps people learn more effectively.

I can tutor various math subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Brief Calculus, Geometry, Discrete Math, and Calculus 1/2/3, and I am particularly skilled in geometry proofs, discrete math proofs, and calculus differentiation/integration methods.

Feel free to contact me at any time! I'm always willing to work with your schedule and find the best time for you to learn. If you are taking math/CS courses at ASU Tempe, let me know what courses you are taking as I may have taken them as well.

Computer Science

Computer Science

I graduated my Bachelors in Computer Science with a 3.88 GPA at ASU, and I am currently a Masters student in Computer Science as well. I have tutoring experience with core computer science classes and programming languages like Java, Python, and C/C++. If you happen to be an ASU student or have similar courses, I can tutor in courses such as Digital Design, Object-Oriented Programming, Intro to Programming Languages, or Data Structures and Algorithms.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I took MAT243 (Arizona State University's discrete math course) in my freshman year of college and received an A- in the class. I have tutoring experience on explaining discrete math homework problems and also helped in understanding the proofs and logic of discrete math. I have an excellent understanding of Discrete Math in the undergraduate level, and those that are taking MAT243 specifically can benefit from my first-hand experience of taking the homework and exams.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taken and passed Geometry with an A+ in high school and I have had 3+ years of tutoring experience for students that struggled in Geometry at ASU.
