Being a recently retired high school English teacher of ten years, I have experience teaching essay writing, interpreting fiction and nonfiction, research writing and format, composition of various types, and providing historical connections with literary periods. In short, I know my subject. I have even had the pleasure of teaching AP Literature. With my background, tutoring seems like a logical outlet in which to share my skills and still have the flexibility which I desire.
My particular skill set includes teaching correct structure for paragraph types, teaching sentence variety, building precise vocabulary, focusing on appropriate voice, as well as proofreading. Additionally, I am proficient with literary analysis and am adept with research writing, and, of course, each of these skills requires a solid understanding of grammar.
Having established my knowledge base, if chosen as your tutor, I require ample notice of any cancellation, though I'm willing to change a schedule. Also, depending on the tutoring focus, I will give feedback on lesson outcomes. As stated earlier, I love proofreading and helping with rewrites. I want my sessions to have successful results.
