About David

Hello, my name is David!

I studied math and French at Princeton University, and I'd love to help you study, review your notes, or prep for an exam! I've also tutored high school and college math of all levels, and guest lectured at Fremont Junior High in Mesa.

I scored 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam as a senior in high school, and took one more class in calculus at Princeton University, as well as a semester of abstract mathematics.

In addition, I learned French fluently while growing up in Central Africa, and have gone on to study French literature and theater in college.

I live in Mesa, and can help with tutoring anywhere in the Valley.

Happy studying!
David

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I scored 2260 on the SAT.

ACT Math

I took AP Calculus AB in high school, scoring a 5 on the exam, and then took Calc 2 and Analysis at Princeton University. Now I tutor math for college and high school students here in the East Valley, and I'm more than ready to help you learn!

Algebra 1

I have university credits in Calculus II and Real Analysis.

I scored 740 on the Math portion of SAT, and 800 on the SAT II Subject Test in Mathematics.

I also have guest teaching experience at Fremont Junior High, Mesa, AZ.

Algebra 2

I've tutored high school math of all levels, from algebra through calculus, and have university credits from Princeton University in Calculus II and Real Analysis. I've also served as a guest lecturer at Fremont Junior High, Mesa, AZ.

Test scores:
SAT Math section: 740
SAT Math II Subject Test: 800
AP Calculus AB: 5

Calculus

I got a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam during my senior year of high school, and took Calculus II at Princeton University in the fall of 2012. I've tutored Calc I and Calc II, so I'd be happy to help you with any questions you might have!

French

I've always loved French!

I learned the language fluently growing up, and now I'm working on a French minor at university.

When tutoring, I focus on helping students relate sounds or spelling rules they might be unfamiliar with to things they already understand. For instance, the French "j," which many English speakers find hard to pronounce, sounds the same as the "z" in the English word seizure. Tricks like this one, which I've picked up through some courses in linguistics, have enabled me to help many of my friends, of various ages, to pronounce French words that had been extremely difficult for them. I hope I can help you as well!

GED

I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam in high school and have studied calculus and real analysis at Princeton University. I also took the SAT II Math 2 Subject Test in 2012 and earned a score of 800.

I tutor all levels of high school math, and have guest lectured at Fremont Junior High, Mesa, AZ.

Precalculus

I have tutored all levels of junior high and high school mathematics, and studied Calculus II and Real Analysis at Princeton University.

I've also served as a guest lecturer at Fremont Junior High, Mesa, AZ. For the SAT Math II subject test, I scored 800, a 740 on the SAT Math section, and a 5 on the AP Calculus exam.

PSAT

I was a National Merit Finalist in 2011, after scoring in the 99th percentile on the PSAT.

SAT Math

I've also scored 800 on the SAT II Math 2 Subject Test, and 740 on the SAT Math Section.

Saxophone

I began taking lessons in alto saxophone as a freshman in high school, in the fall of 2008; I took lessons regularly for one year, and continued to practice on my own through 2010.

In 2010, as a junior in high school, I joined the Concert Band, open to all students, as well as the audition-only Jazz Band, at Valley Christian High School, in Chandler, AZ. Our Concert Band and Jazz Band were both directed by Mr. Daniel Lara.

As a senior (2011-12), I was elected President of the Concert Band, and served until the end of my senior year of high school.

I received the Outstanding Musicianship Award from Forum Music Festivals for my individual play in the spring of 2012, as part of our Concert Band's adjudicated performance in La Mirada, CA.

I was also awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award by Valley Christian High School in the spring of 2012, for excellence in Concert Band.

Since then I have continued to play saxophone occasionally for friends and family, and for personal enjoyment.

Trigonometry

I got an A in Precalculus during my junior at Valley Christian High School, and after going on to study two years of calculus, I'm now working as a tutor in the East Valley. I cater my lesson plans to each individual student I work with, so you can feel free to come to me with any request!

Volleyball

I played varsity volleyball at the high school level for two years, from the fall of 2008 through the spring of 2010, at Rain Forest International School in Yaounde, Cameroon, Africa. After my freshman year (2008-09) I was rewarded as Most Improved Player on the team.

I had learned the game at a very young age, from my father, and played often during my childhood. In more recent years I have played sporadically, but I continue to enjoy playing volleyball whenever I have the opportunity.

I play primarily as a middle hitter.

Writing

I worked from June to August 2014 as an editorial assistant for Professor Elizabeth B. of Arizona State University, while I was on a break from school, editing articles for a book she was compiling in political philosophy.

I also scored a 770 on the Writing Section of the SAT, and have written numerous papers in philosophy and French at Princeton University.

Warning — David C. describes himself as a "patient and knowledgeable math and french tutor" he is absolutely anything but patient. He cannot explain a lesson on how to do something and when you don't understand it he gets very frustrated with you. I recommend anyone but him. ...
