Hello! I’m Breanna, a reading specialist and literacy interventionist with eight years of experience supporting students in kindergarten through eighth grade. I have taught in both general education and special education classrooms. My passion is helping children who struggle with reading, including learners with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. I have worked with multiple learners with dyslexia and have helped students progress from learning basic letter sounds to reading as many as 60 words per minute. My goal is to improve reading skills while helping students build confidence and experience success.

I hold an Orton-Gillingham certificate from the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education and am currently completing the IMSE Orton-Gillingham Interventionist Certificate. As part of this training, I have completed a six-month supervised practicum focused on structured literacy instruction. I am also working toward advanced professional recognition in dyslexia-focused instruction.

My teaching approach is explicit, systematic, multisensory, and individualized. I support the five pillars of literacy: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Lessons may also include decoding, spelling, and word-reading practice based on your child’s specific needs.

During our first session, I begin with a student interview to learn about your child’s strengths, challenges, interests, and previous instruction. I then use assessment information to identify your child’s current skill level and create a targeted learning plan. Each lesson is designed specifically for your child and includes clear instruction, guided practice, review, and opportunities to build confidence.

For my graduate capstone project, I conducted a sight-word research study with my first-grade class, and my students’ scores increased by 36% over two weeks. I would love to partner with your family and help your child become a more skilled, confident, and motivated reader.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I completed the Orton-Gillingham Plus training through the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education. It included explicit instruction of foundational phonological awareness and phonics skills. I have used these materials to support learners in a special education setting. These methods are fun, engaging, and effective!
Piano

Piano

Hello! I have been playing piano for about 20 years. I recently started teaching piano and it has been a lot of fun! My approach to teaching piano involves three parts. We learn and practice scales, chords, and arpeggios. We learn and review notes with flashcards. We play songs using a book that matches your level.
Reading

Reading

I've been a teacher for five years and have worked with children from kindergarten to 8th grade in general and special education settings. I recently completed the first Orton-Gillingham training through the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education. It is a reading method that is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds.

Great experience, professional and caring

She was very patient and personable with my son. He felt comfortable and didn't complain, which is a big sign it was a good session. She provided an overview of the assessments completed and was flexible.
