I now work as a patent attorney, where a large part of my job is learning technical subjects quickly and explaining complex ideas clearly. I especially enjoy helping students with physics, engineering, and the math that supports them, including algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus.
My approach is to help students understand why a problem works rather than simply memorize a formula or a set of steps. In physics, that often means starting with a diagram, identifying the relevant principles, and then connecting the equations to what is physically happening. I like to ask questions that help students work their way to the answer, while stepping in with clear explanations when they get stuck. My goal is for students to leave a session better able to solve the next problem on their own.
My previous tutoring experience was primarily with college students in introductory physics courses, both one-on-one and in a lab setting. I’m especially interested in working with high school and college students in AP Physics, introductory and calculus-based physics, mechanics, and related math and engineering courses. I’m patient, approachable, and happy to adapt the pace and explanation style to the student.
