My name is Chase A. I am a current middle school science teacher (ages 11–13) in the Mesa Public School District. I am in my fifth year of teaching full-time and have taught both 6th- and 7th-grade science, including topics such as astronomy, ecology, physical science, and biology. I attended Arizona State University and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I have tutored in Spanish and middle school subjects and was an instructional aide for a year. I am certified in Middle Grades Science (NES score: 256) and Middle Grades Mathematics (NES score: 258).

As a tutor and aide, I have worked one-on-one and in small groups with students ages 8–14 (grades 3–8). When you and I work together, our focus will be on understanding assignments, lab work, and core concepts by breaking them into manageable steps and visual models. We will work step-by-step on lab analyses, AVID strategies (like summarizing and study habits), multi-step equations, and homework support. Feel free to show me how you learned any of these subjects, and I am happy to either continue following those same strategies or help you find a new one that suits your style of learning better. As a Spanish tutor, I focus on what you already know and will help you refine it. Together, we move forward based on what you want to learn.

I believe learning is best when it is discovered, experienced, and felt. My approach to science education in particular is the 5E Framework — a structure designed to facilitate exploration followed by concrete clarifications. In tutoring, we use experiments, demonstrations, observations, and visual examples to make ideas concrete. The key is for you to make sense of what you observe given your background knowledge and current understanding. My job is to help you refine this understanding through questioning and direct clarification of misconceptions. We also discuss the significance of what you learn, so the purpose behind it is always clear.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored middle school and elementary-age students in mathematics throughout my teaching career. I support students by using multiple strategies, including visual models, diagrams, and breaking down word problems into manageable steps. I also emphasize checking answers for reasonableness and helping students understand why a method works, not just how to follow it. My goal is to build confidence in students so that they can view mathematics as manageable.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I became certified in Middle Grades Science in 2019 and have taught it for nearly five years. I believe science should be discovered, investigated, questioned, experienced, and felt by every student. This involves being exposed to exemplary natural phenomena that allow for evaluation, explanation, and application to situations in students' daily lives. In addition to phenomena, students also need clear clarifications when needed, especially when misconceptions inevitably arise.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have supported middle school students in prealgebra throughout my teaching career. I help students understand essential concepts such as variables, ratios, and solving equations by breaking problems into manageable steps. I start where students already are and build up from there, making sure to focus on why certain strategies work, not just on the fact that they work. My goal is to build confidence and prepare students for algebra by focusing on understanding, not memorization.
Spanish

Spanish

I lived in Mexico City in 2013 - I interacted almost constantly with people in both formal and informal conversations. I am comfortable using both tú and usted forms and regularly use the subjunctive in natural conversation. I communicate in Spanish with students (ages 11-13) and parents on a near-daily basis. I am especially familiar with Mexican Spanish phrases, terminology, and everyday conversational usage.
