My name is Chase A. I am a current middle school science teacher (ages 11–13) in the Mesa Public School District. As a tutor and aide, I have worked one-on-one and in small groups with students ages 8–14 (grades 3–8). When you and I work together, our focus will be on understanding assignments, lab work, and core concepts by breaking them into manageable steps and visual models. We will work step-by-step on lab analyses, AVID strategies (like summarizing and study habits), multi-step equations, and homework support. Feel free to show me how you learned any of these subjects, and I am happy to either continue following those same strategies or help you find a new one that suits your style of learning better. I believe learning is best when it is discovered, experienced, and felt. My approach to science education in particular is the 5E Framework — a structure designed to facilitate exploration followed by concrete clarifications. In tutoring, we use experiments, demonstrations, observations, and visual examples to make ideas concrete. The key is for you to make sense of what you observe given your background knowledge and current understanding. My job is to help you refine this understanding through questioning and direct clarification of misconceptions. We also discuss the significance of what you learn, so the purpose behind it is always clear.
