Hi! My name is Christine and I am thrilled to begin teaching your child with the creativity and enthusiasm that I am known for by all my students! I have over 25 years of teaching experience from preschool through high school. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from San Jose State University with an emphasis in Elementary Education which has given me a strong foundation to teach all subjects. I also earned a Minor in Music with a Performing emphasis. I particularly excelled in my Music and Art for children classes which has inspired me to infuse these disciplines across the curriculum.

I obtained a certification in Early Childhood Education and went right into teaching preschool after college. Then I homeschooled my six children with the Classical Trivium methodology for 17 years, creating engaging lessons and achieving high academic scores. I studied the different learning styles, visual, auditory and kinesthetic, and used the Orton-Gillingham method of reading to aid my children with ADD and dyslexia.

For more than four years in my 4th grade classroom, parents have praised my ability to create games for spelling, vocabulary and math that have increased knowledge and test scores for their children. These ways of captivating young students, in addition to one-on-one assistance with math and reading, make me an asset to any child who needs something more than the modern classroom gives.

I received vocal training in college, in both private lessons and by my directors. I have sung in many elite choirs and was the lead cantor at my church for 8 years. I also had the opportunity to direct three musical productions, utilizing my experience and talent to encourage teenage students to further their vocal abilities. I want to continue to inspire young talent to achieve their musical goals through my patient, positive vocal instruction which is tailored to the needs of each student, not bound by a particular method.

I homeschooled my children from kindergarten through 12th grade with a Classical Distance Learning school for 17 years. I utilized learning styles to best help each child learn at their own pace in their own way. I used engaging ways to teach across the curriculum with games, art, music and drama to make the subjects come alive. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from San Jose State University with an emphasis in Elementary Education.
Reading

Reading

When I homeschooled my six children, I used the Spaulding method for reading and spelling. My youngest showed signs of dyslexia, so we used the Orton- Gillingham method with much success!! I am now a Barton tutor and would love to help you with your child who is struggling with these skills! I love to incorporate music and games with my teaching to make learning fun!
Theater

Theater

Due to my love for music and theater that I acquired in my own high school experience, I directed three musical theater productions for Ville de Marie Academy, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, and Meet Me in St. Louis. During these productions, I worked with students on stage presence, vocal diction and projection, acting, blocking, set design, lighting and sound, developed and taught choreography.

Voice (Music)

I hold a minor in Music from San Jose State University where I was in the elite Concert Choir under the direction of the acclaimed Dr. Charlene Archibeque. I received vocal instruction at the college and have continued my singing in various choirs, often singing at weddings and funerals. I was also the cantor at my church for 8 years, leading the congregation in song. Additionally, I have given vocal instruction for the 3 theatrical plays I directed at Ville de Marie Academy.
