Hi, I’m Wes, a PhD neuroscientist and experienced college biology instructor. I earned my PhD in neuroscience from Arizona State University, an MS in Biology, and a BA in Psychology. My teaching and research background includes biology, neuroscience, genetics, anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular biology, psychology, scientific communication, and data analysis.

I have several years of experience teaching primarily college-aged and adult students in classroom and one-on-one settings. I have worked with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including those who feel confident in science and those who find it intimidating. I can also help high school students with biology, reading, writing, public speaking, and science-focused test preparation. In writing sessions, I help students develop and organize their own ideas, improve clarity, use evidence effectively, and revise their work while preserving their individual voice.

My teaching approach emphasizes understanding rather than memorization. I break difficult material into manageable steps, use examples and analogies to make abstract ideas clearer, and adjust each lesson to the student’s course, learning style, and goals. Whether you are preparing for an exam or presentation, working through a challenging assignment, analyzing scientific data, or revising a paper, I aim to make our sessions supportive, practical, and focused. My goal is for you to leave with both a stronger understanding of the immediate material and greater confidence in your ability to work independently.
