I specialize in working with students from kindergarten through 8th grade. I begin with an assessment to determine where the student is currently performing so that I can tailor lessons to meet their individual needs. I follow a scope and sequence based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, which ensures that sound and spelling patterns are taught in a logical, sequential manner.

I recommend two 30-minute sessions per week. A typical session might include:

-Reviewing skills from previous lessons
-Learning a new skill
-Practicing the skill through both reading and spelling
-Reading a fiction or nonfiction text that aligns with the student's current skill level
-Ending with a fun activity or game to reinforce the skill

I look forward to meeting your student and sharing the love of reading with them. I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn to read and that, given the right tools and instruction, I can help them do just that.

Please reach out, and let's get reading!

With 35 years of experience in education, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for helping children learn and grow. I spent 10 years as a classroom teacher and 21 years working in a school media center where I also provided reading intervention and literacy support. Most recently I served as a School Director for two years. I understand that every child learns differently, and I enjoy creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students can build confidence, strengthen their skills, and discover that learning can be fun. Tutoring has been a part of my career since before I officially began teaching. I love working one-on-one with students and helping them discover the joy that comes with learning and feeling successful. In a one-on-one setting, students can be themselves, ask questions, make mistakes, and grow without worrying about what their peers may think. For the past six years, I have had the opportunity to tutor students online and work with families across the country.
