I have a B.A. and license in Elementary Education (K-8 license) and a M.S. as a Reading Specialist (K-12 license), so you can ensure high quality instruction and coaching.

I implement the science of teaching reading and Wilson Reading System and Equipped for Reading Success with learners diagnosed with or exhibiting characteristics of dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Since 2021, I've coached/tutored 1-1 virtually specializing in supporting the individualized executive function skills and needs of students/adults with ADHD and ADD. I emphasize self-regulation, self-management and self-awareness through supported processes and practices for all tutoring students. I have training in the neurosequential model of education and applied behavior analysis.

I am also a published author (Routledge), writing, speaking and consulting about peace education, trauma informed care and more.

Additionally, I am a PhD candidate and graduate fellow in Educational Policy & Evaluation at ASU.

ADHD

ADHD

I've partnered with youth and adults 1-1 in virtual coaching sessions for students with primary diagnoses of ADHD and ADD since 2021. This cognitive training and coaching engages learners in processes and strategies for strengthening executive function skills, deepening self-awareness, self-management and regulation. In my experience, students openness to partnering for this purpose is important. Examples of executive function skills include: Planning and Prioritization: deciding the importance of tasks and scheduling them accordingly; Organization: keeping external environments and storage areas tidy, separating and categorizing internal thoughts; Problem-solving: brainstorming and trying out solutions independently; Flexibility: if something doesn’t work, be able to change the process midway; Time management: making realistic estimations on how long a task will take; Metacognition: the ability to think about your thinking (recognizing when thinking is easy and when it is difficult). This are important skills for students with ADHD, so that they can recognize when attention or focus shifts and how this impact their relationships and academic progress.

knowledgeable and patient tutor

We had a minor hiccup regarding what devices are compatible with the Wyzant platform. Julie was able to trouble shoot with us during our weekday session and we were fine by the time the weekend came.
