I have more than 16 years of teaching and tutoring experience with students from elementary school through high school, as well as adult learners. I am TESOL-certified and currently in the accelerated Master's program in Communication at Arizona State University. My experience includes classroom teaching, private one-on-one tutoring, and nonprofit tutoring. I currently tutor K-12 students through Step Up Tutoring.

I specialize in English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. I also help students prepare for the ACT, ACCUPLACER, ISEE, and other entrance and placement exams. I have extensive experience with ESL students, helping children and adults improve their English for school, work, and everyday communication.

My tutoring approach is patient, flexible, and individualized. I am very perceptive of how a student is feeling and can usually tell when something isn't clicking, even if they don't say it. When that happens, I adjust my approach and find another way to explain it. My goal is to help students understand why an answer is correct and become more confident working independently. I also speak Spanish and conversational Mandarin Chinese, which helps me work comfortably with students from many different backgrounds.
