I am a certified K–8 classroom teacher in Arizona with 30 years of experience in both general education and special education at the elementary level. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies from Indiana University Bloomington and a Master’s degree in Special Education from California State University, Fullerton. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, including students with diverse learning needs and English language learners, which has strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have provided tutoring for the past three years in both in-person and online settings. I have worked one-on-one with elementary students across reading, writing, and math, using structured, research-based approaches. I incorporate digital learning tools along with evidence-based programs such as UFLI to support foundational reading skills, as well as targeted writing strategies to build confidence and independence. My approach emphasizes clear modeling, guided practice, and gradual release so students can successfully apply new skills on their own.
I typically meet with students for one hour sessions, which can be divided into two 30-minute segments to address multiple subject areas, or focused on one area for deeper instruction. Each session begins with a warm-up to review previously learned skills, followed by focused instruction and guided practice. My goal is to create a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel confident, engaged, and successful as they build their academic skills.
