Hi, I’m Ryan! I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona Honors College with dual bachelor’s degrees in astronomy and physics and a minor in mathematics. I then earned my Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Colorado Boulder. My academic background prepares me to tutor math, physics, astronomy, and related STEM subjects through the undergraduate level, with particular depth in astronomy through early graduate coursework.
While in graduate school, I worked as a teaching assistant for three semesters in undergraduate astrophysics courses. My responsibilities included leading lab sections, helping students work through quantitative problems, answering questions during office hours, and explaining challenging material in different ways when the first explanation did not click. I also have extensive science-outreach experience communicating technical ideas to students and general audiences, which has taught me how to make unfamiliar concepts feel approachable without talking down to anyone.
My tutoring style is inquisitive, encouraging, and tailored to the student in front of me. I like asking questions, working through examples together, and connecting abstract material to real-world experiences whenever that helps build intuition. As a neurodivergent person, I understand that students can have very different learning styles, confidence levels, and barriers to getting started—especially in demanding high-school or college STEM classes. I aim to create a supportive, low-pressure space where students can ask questions freely, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and build confidence alongside subject knowledge.
