My name is Erika! I'm a 24-year-old tutor specializing in mathematics and physical sciences for students 12 years and older. I graduated college in 2020 with a B.S. double majoring in mathematics and chemistry and minor in statistics. During college, I spent three years teaching introductory-level lab courses in my university's chemistry department. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles and began working for an independent tutoring company, and after moving away I have continued working with them remotely as a tutor over Zoom for four years.
I specialize in teaching mathematics, as it's a particular passion of mine, and am comfortable with subjects ranging from middle-school algebra to undergraduate courses such as multivariate calculus and differential equations. I also frequently teach courses in high-school level and AP science subjects, particularly physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Most of the time, I work online teaching over Zoom teaching one-on-one or in small groups, though I also have experience working in person as well as well as larger groups. I like to focus on understanding why a student has struggled with methods their current teacher has been using and tailor my approach, with a focus on developing intuitive understanding instead of memorizing techniques for solving problems and ensuring the student gets plenty of hands-on practice with the chance to ask questions.
