Hello!
I am an advanced math, coding, reading, and writing tutor who graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Engineering Science in 2018. My teaching/tutoring background includes 4 years as a math teacher in a classroom setting with Teach For America in Oakland, CA and at an arts school in Flagstaff, AZ wherein I taught high school Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, and Quantitative Reasoning with Python and Machine Learning. My tutoring experience includes 3 years as an SAT/ACT tutor in a combination of remote and in person settings.
I have been successful as a teacher and tutor for several reasons. First is subject mastery: I maintain SAT/ACT scores of 1540/34, and I use my math and writing skills in personal software projects. Second is adaptability; I am able to gauge the desires and needs of my students and adjust accordingly. Third is effective methodology. Rather than talk “at” students, I try to ask open-ended questions such as, “How are you thinking about this problem?” falling back to direct instruction and examples when necessary. Fourth is program design. As a former classroom teacher, I understand the importance of spaced repetition and reexposing students to material repeatedly over time through various modalities.
My interests outside of teaching/tutoring include AI/Machine Learning, politics, writing, and fitness/wellness. I look forward to meeting you!
