With 30 years of experience teaching and tutoring reading, I bring deep, specialized expertise to every session. I hold a Doctorate in Education and a Reading Specialist certification, and I have served as an adjunct college professor in addition to maintaining a private tutoring practice. My focus is on the specific reading challenges that determine students' academic placement and progress — particularly the Accuplacer, EdReady, and GED reading sections, as well as college-level reading comprehension.

Over three decades, I have worked one-on-one and in classroom settings with high school students preparing for college placement tests, traditional-age college students struggling with academic reading demands, and adult learners pursuing the GED or returning to school. As a former adjunct instructor at the community college level, I have seen firsthand how a low placement test score can lock students into semesters of non-credit remedial coursework. I know exactly what these tests are looking for, and that insider perspective shapes how I prepare every student.

My approach is targeted and practical. I do not use scripted curriculum. Each session begins with a diagnostic look at where the student actually struggles — whether that is vocabulary in context, identifying main ideas, drawing inferences, or building reading stamina — and we build from there using authentic test passages, real college reading materials, and proven test-taking strategies. Whether you are a high school senior preparing for the Accuplacer, an adult studying for the GED, or a college student trying to keep up with reading-heavy coursework, I would love to help you build the skills and confidence you need to succeed.

Approved Subjects

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

As a former community college adjunct instructor with a doctorate in education and a Reading Specialist certification, I have spent over 30 years preparing students to succeed on the Accuplacer reading section. I know the test format, the question types, and the kinds of passages and traps students typically encounter — insider knowledge from my years working at the community college level where Accuplacer scores determine placement. My sessions combine targeted vocabulary work, main idea and inference practice using authentic Accuplacer-style passages, and the specific test-taking strategies the Accuplacer rewards. Whether you are a high school senior preparing for college placement, an adult returning to school, or a current student needing to retest, I will help you walk in confident and well-prepared.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

As a former community college adjunct instructor and Reading Specialist with a doctorate in education, I have spent over 30 years helping students at every level become clearer, more confident writers. My essay tutoring spans college application essays and personal statements, academic essays and research papers for high school and college students, and the extended response section of the GED — the spots where students most often get stuck moving from blank-page paralysis to a polished, well-argued draft. My approach is collaborative and skill-building: we work through structure, thesis development, evidence and analysis, transitions, and revision together so you walk away with skills that transfer to every essay you will ever write, not just the one we are working on. Whether you are a high school senior staring at a college application essay, a college student facing your first major research paper, or an adult preparing for the GED, I will help you organize your thinking and put it on the page with confidence.
