With 30 years of experience teaching and tutoring reading, I bring deep, specialized expertise to every session. I hold a Doctorate in Education and a Reading Specialist certification, and I have served as an adjunct college professor in addition to maintaining a private tutoring practice. My focus is on the specific reading challenges that determine students' academic placement and progress — particularly the Accuplacer, EdReady, and GED reading sections, as well as college-level reading comprehension.
Over three decades, I have worked one-on-one and in classroom settings with high school students preparing for college placement tests, traditional-age college students struggling with academic reading demands, and adult learners pursuing the GED or returning to school. As a former adjunct instructor at the community college level, I have seen firsthand how a low placement test score can lock students into semesters of non-credit remedial coursework. I know exactly what these tests are looking for, and that insider perspective shapes how I prepare every student.
My approach is targeted and practical. I do not use scripted curriculum. Each session begins with a diagnostic look at where the student actually struggles — whether that is vocabulary in context, identifying main ideas, drawing inferences, or building reading stamina — and we build from there using authentic test passages, real college reading materials, and proven test-taking strategies. Whether you are a high school senior preparing for the Accuplacer, an adult studying for the GED, or a college student trying to keep up with reading-heavy coursework, I would love to help you build the skills and confidence you need to succeed.
