I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and continued my education by completing graduate-level coursework in mathematics. My teaching experience began while I was in college, where I regularly tutored students and worked as a teaching assistant. I also served as a teaching assistant while completing graduate coursework. Through these experiences, I discovered how much I enjoy taking challenging mathematical concepts and finding ways to make them accessible to students with different backgrounds and levels of understanding.
I went on to teach mathematics in both junior high and high school classrooms and have five years of teaching experience. At the high school level, I have taught courses ranging from Prealgebra, Algebra I and Geometry through Algebra II, Honors Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. Working with students across such a wide range of courses has taught me that there is rarely one explanation that works for everyone. I focus on identifying where a student struggles and then approaching the concept in a way that makes sense to that individual student.
In addition to classroom teaching and tutoring, I have been involved in mathematics curriculum development. This has given me extensive experience thinking about how mathematical ideas should be introduced, connected, and built upon over time. My goal when tutoring is not simply to help students arrive at the correct answer, but to help them understand the mathematics behind it and develop the confidence and problem-solving skills to approach future problems independently.
