TOK essays, TOK exhibitions, IB Extended Essays (ex. geography, history, global politics), and college/grad school philosophy and research essays.

Hi - I'm an experienced IB, AP, classical school, and college teacher and an active professional journalist. I'm great at coming up with ideas, structure, and direction on essays, and I often tutor IB and college essays, ex. TOK essays, TOK exhibitions, IB Extended Essays (ex. geography, history, global politics), and college/grad school philosophy and research essays.

I make learning fun, and my own writing helps me advise students on their writing. I love working one-on-one with students and motivating them to be the best they can be. I started teaching 20 years ago, and have taught in international schools in seven countries including China, Switzerland, England, Panama, Spain, Costa Rica, and the US.

My common subjects include:
-IB Theory of Knowledge - TOK
-IB Global Politics including Engagement Activity
-Humane Letters - classical
-AP US Government
-AP Human Geography
-College geography (all classes)
-AP Environmental Science
-IB Environmental Systems and Societies
-World History
-US History

I am good at generating ideas and helping students come up with possibilities to explore in their writing. I scored 98th percentile on the GRE verbal. I also speak Spanish (I lived in Spain, Costa Rica, and Panama), and can work with Spanish-speaking students.

I have a Master's in Liberal Arts focusing on intellectual history. I make history fun by relating it to everyday things people know and current events they are interested in. I help students make connections and also use images to bring history alive. I have taught in international schools in seven countries and traveled to nearly 40, and I can bring images, ideas, and stories from these places to bring social studies alive.

I have a broad academic background, with a BA in Government from Georgetown and two Master's in Geography and Liberal Arts, the latter from the Great Books program at St. John's. This allows me to make wider connections to bring social studies to life and make it fun.

Best history tutor!

Robert helped my daughter prepare for a history test. He explained the material in clear and concise manner. He rearranged the teachers material so it had better organization and flow and just made more sense to my daughter. We will definitely be using Robert again.

Patient and Knowledgeable Tutor

I had a great session with Robert. He greatly helped me understand how to properly approach Section 2 of my IA and gave me invaluable tips on how to effectively introduce my complementary research to support my primary research. I highly recommend his tutoring, if you're struggling with how to get going!

Awesome TOK teacher!

Robert was very accommodating to our last minute request for help. My son was struggling and Robert stepped in to help him better understand the assignment and concepts. By the end of the session, my son was looping in theories from other classes into his essay and had a firm grasp on how to move forward. Robert alleviated a lot of stress! Thank you, Robert!
