Hi, I'm Jen! Creating a learning environment that is safe, relaxed, personalized and accomplishment-oriented provides the opportunity for those I tutor to succeed in mastering content and building a knowledge base that ensures continued learning while building learning skills. My approach to serving those I tutor includes accessing the individual's current level of achievement, identifying content gaps, preparing individualized paths to content mastery, and assisting with understanding learning styles, building learning skills and instilling confidence. With eight years of experience tutoring students from eighth grade to undergraduate college level, my approach has helped hundreds of students succeed in both their academic pursuits and their self-confident learning.

Since being selected to participate in the John Hopkins' Center for Talented Youth Advanced Mathematics program in elementary school, my own academic experiences have emphasized STEM content. Chosen to attend a high school Math and Science Specialty School; majoring in Chemistry and Orchestral Performance at the College of William and Mary; and completing a doctoral degree in Chemistry at Washington University in Saint Louis, I come to the tutoring sessions with a broad content background as well as experience in navigating the educational system. Currently working in the high-tech field of computer chip manufacturing, I am on the cutting edge of technology innovation utilizing the STEM content I learned on a daily basis. From basic knowledge of a broad spectrum of content to highly specialized and complex science, I am prepared to help students improve grades, increase test scores and reach academic goals.

ACT English

ACT English

I've been teaching ACT/SAT test prep for 9 years now, and do a holistic approach to students to help them reach their goals. I believe that studying for these standardized tests helps students develop good study habits that should take them from high school to college, and I recommend tutoring when you or your child can't figure out how to make the score you want. I can help figure out what to focus on!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I love teaching both math and science, and have taught all levels of high school mathematics. I find that Algebra 1 is so important to build upon, so making sure that your student is confident and ready for future math (and science!) classes will pay dividends throughout their lives.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I love teaching both math and science, and have taught all levels of high school mathematics. I find that Algebra 2 is so important to know for the SAT/ACT but also to further expand math knowledge to help in sciences and further mathematics.
Calculus

I have a PhD in analytical chemistry, and work in the field. I find chemistry to be fascinating in the real world, and have an often unmatched passion for it.
Music History

Music History

I have a bachelor's degree in music, and specialized in music history of western classical music. I do not do music in a professional capacity, but one of my greatest accomplishments was learning more about music in my undergraduate education. If you are struggling with music history, I can help guide you through the subject, and hopefully make you love it as well!
Needlework

Needlework

I've been crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing, and cross-stitching for over 20 years now. Obviously, this is a passion of mine, as opposed to a formal education, but if you need help, or would like to learn, I'd be able to teach you!
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry was the first subject I started tutoring because everyone is scared of it, and it is not that hard. Once I teach you how to study for orgo, you'll be able to pass on your own, usually with an A. The majority of my students only need a couple of sessions to start getting As.

Best tutor I’ve ever had

We worked together for two semesters of Intro Chemistry and Organic 1 and 2. I got an A in Intro Chem and I can say for certain that it was due to working with Jen. She is patient, encouraging, and truly teaches in a way that YOU understand. I can’t recommend her enough!!
