I taught Composition I, Composition II, and Composition Fundamentals in the classroom at the university level for two years, and I’ve been a writing tutor for high school students, and for both college undergraduate and graduate students for four years in almost every subject you can think of. I have a passion for teaching creative writing for elementary, middle-school, and high school students. I also tutor students for the essay portions of the ACT, SAT, and GED. I have a Master’s degree in Technical & Expository Writing, with emphases writing pedagogy and extended non-fiction, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, and another Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Religion.
As a writing teacher and tutor, it is my responsibility to provide a learning environment by which students can develop a sense of worth and intrinsic motivation. I take this responsibility very seriously because students look to tutors as a source of knowledge and influence on their life’s journey. In my view, the ideal academic environment is one that fosters student imagination, creativity, and that recognizes different learning styles and approaches. I structure my tutoring style so that it will be interactive. Tutors must motivate students, keep their interest, and help inspire a desire to learn about themselves and the world.
As an educator, I take pride in knowing I can teach people in a unique way to capture their attention and I am always open to change.
