Hi! I am Cynthia. My friends call me Cindy! I have an Associate of General Studies (magna cum laude), a Bachelors in English Language and Literature (Summa Cum Laude), and a Masters in Student Affairs and College (magna cum laude).
English and Reading were my favorite subjects in school. My second and fifth grade teachers were the two I remember most who really peaked my interest in these two subjects. I always loved how their voices reflected the characters and the many cities and countries I was able to travel through the book, were the things that aroused my love for reading and English.
This is the experience I bring to my students. I strive to make every learning session fun and exciting all while students are learning the concept for the day. One of the methods I use, is to identify something the student is already familiar with and use that to teach the lesson concept. For example, if I am tutoring a student in reading and that student lives on a farm, I initially choose books that relate to farm life. In my experience, they can relate and are likely to be familiar with the pictures in the book to help them relate to the words and context of the reading.
I have 20 years of extensive tutoring experience in English, Reading, and Grammar primarily with 3rd-5th graders; 5 of these years I spent tutoring K-2nd grade students. I provide extra help, both one on one and small groups, to students who score less than proficient on the previous year benchmark (end of year) exam. Lessons consist of computer based material, worksheets, games, etc…. Pre and Post test are given at the beginning and end of each level to evaluate progress.
My goal is to see progress in every student I tutor. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I’m here to help.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have extensive tutoring experience in K-6 education. I worked as an English and Reading Interventionist for 12 years with K-6 grade students. In this role, I identified areas where the student was struggling and assigned specific lessons to target those areas. Students who did not score well in English on the previous year’s benchmark, were placed on my list for intervention services. Each student was given a pre-test to see how they ranked for their grade level. In most cases, students scored below grade level and in specific English and Reading components. Lessons were tailored for each student to target their individual need(s); whether it was a one on one session or a small group setting. The goal for this intervention was to prepare the student for the coming year’s benchmark exam. Pre and Post intervention test scores were prepared and data proved there was significant increase in student scores due to the targeted interventions for those students. I was proud to head this effort for my school and I continue to practice these strategies as I continue effectively tutoring students in English and Reading.
